Jose was eager to talk and be a friend. He said he is a Dr. and has a "finca" on the coast that he would be very glad if we would come and visit. My spanish is not that good and I was not remembering the word finca, and he could not think of the english word "farm" at the time so there was some confusion. We were headed for Jaco so we thanked him and went on our way.
Arenal is a famous volcano that is still active. In the day it looks like there is a small cloud line running down the side. At night you can see the flowing lava trickling down the side. This heat creates steam which appears as the cloud line in the daylight.
Poas is a volcanic crater with a lake in it. Clouds obstruct the view a lot of the time. I have heard people have gone three or four times without it clearing. We were lucky as it cleared about thirty minutes after we arrived.
Don't be surprised if a local asks you to join him. The people are very nice and like to practice their English.
If you rent a car stop at a place along the way and enjoy the food. The people are very friendly, and a cool drink never hurt anybody.
