Chirripo is a good 20 km walk up to the Chirripo lodge. The denivelation is of 2000 meters. From the lodge to the summit there is an other hour's walk, and lots of places to explore.
You will be doing a lot of walking on rough terrain, up and down mountains. If you are not a trained walker and have weak knees, beware. In Chirripo, you are far from everything and the only way to come down the mountain is on foot.
Sometimes horses go up, but this can not be guaranteed as there are several locked gates on the way. If these are closed, impossible to get horses up.
It's well worth the ascension, just be informed.. my knee went out 9 km from the exit, so the walk down was not the most enjoyable of my life.
Just being so far from everything, having to walk hours up through sceneries that transform as you ascend, knowing you are so close to nature.
Fondest memory: Waking in the morning in the base camp, and walking out onto the hills around just taking in the view..
