Las Ventanas at Springs Resort & Spa: Upscale Dining in Arenal

by GracesTrips Updated Dec 28, 2014

Beautiful dining area and upscale menu. The food was wonderful, especially the fish. We ordered a beef tartare appetizer that was really good! We were served a burrata with tomato amuse bouche to start with. Decent wine selection, too!

Cafe & Macadamia Restaurante Cafeteria: Macadamia Nut World!

by GracesTrips Updated Dec 22, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We left the Springs Resort & Spa to get on our way to Monteverde and stopped for some lunch. This looked like an inviting place with parking. What a great surprise! There was a little outdoor area with picnic tables to eat with AMAZING views! Lunch selection looked great! And, the sandwiches were very delicious! Everything in this place had to do with macadamia nuts. The bread was made with nuts, they had coffee with macadamia nuts, the patio area outside was nothing but macadamia nut shells. A little quirky but fun! They even had WiFi! Prices were reasonable for what you were served. A definite must see if you are in the area! See more photos on my travelogue!

Arenal Lodge Restaurant: Fabulous Volcano View & Reasonable Prices

by TravellerMel Updated Apr 30, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We had been seeing the signs for Arenal Lodge, and it's great views and food, so we decided to check it out. We drove an INCREDIBLY long way up the mountain (seriously, there is a sign at the top that reads "You FINALLY Made It!"), and parked in the lodge parking lot. The first thing we noticed upon entering the lobby was a huge, beautiful blue macaw, eating sunflower seeds on the concierge table. I hoped to get a picture of him after lunch, but we were told he was a domesticated, but not tame, bird - he had already moved on...

Anyway, we entered the restaurant and were seated by a Maitre 'd. I got nervous - we had been eating at local sodas - this place had actual waiters, and linen tablecloths... We were seated by the window which had a breathtaking view of Arenal Volcano. We were handed our menus, and I held my breath... and I was pleasantly surprised to find the prices to be quite reasonable. I had the beef fajitas, which is like Mexican fajitas, but served with rice and beans and no tortillas - it was quite tasty. My husband had a hamburger with fries. Add on his Coke Light, and my mango smoothie, and the bill came to just over $30.

After lunch, we walked out to the gardens and walked out to the Overlook and it was gorgeous! You could see for miles (kilometers?). On the walk back, we saw a howler monkey in the trees. The property looked lovely.

It was a delightful way to spend our lunch.

Que Rico Aqui Arenal: Excellent food and service!

by dafni Written Oct 5, 2010

Que Rico Aqui Arenal deserves to be acclaimed as the #1 restaurant in the Arenal area and La Fortuna. We totally enjoyed every meal at Que Rico Arenal.
From the moment you arrive, the staff provides a warm and attentive welcome to the modern dining space with spectacular views to the volcano. The service is stellar from start to finish, with incredibly courteous personnel and reasonable waiting times.
Their breakfast buffet is perhaps one of the best in the country, and it’s free when staying at the Arenal Volcano Inn! It provides plenty of options to choose from, from the typical ‘Gallo Pinto’ to omelets made to order, to fruit and cereal bars.
On the other hand, the menu itself is so varied; it’s difficult to decide on each course! It offers primarily Italian food, with excellent choices of pastas, pizzas and carpaccios, as well as international and typical Costa Rican dishes. The incredible taste of the food is just as good as its presentation – each dish nicely decorated, from appetizers to desserts.
This is an essential Arenal Volcano experience and it’s worth every dime. We will definitely return on our next trip to Arenal!

  • Let's call them # 1 and # 2: Cheap restaurants

by endbegins Written Jun 7, 2005

    # 1. Big and tasty hamburguers we had for lunch. There were much more options in the menu. Very cheap. It's got like a pub upstairs for later on.
    # 2. Mamma mia pizzas¡¡ Tasty, big (which sometimes it is important) and cheap. More options in the menu. Nice waiter. Nice beer.

    Typical Local Snack Bar

    by travelgirl3 Written Dec 29, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We stopped at this little place during our drive to Arenal Volcano, when the bus driver had to change a flat tire. It was typical of many of the local watering holes - very basic, but with a couple of coolers filled with cold sodas and Imperiale beer. And those delicious little lime chips, sigh!

    Roadside Stand

    by travelgirl3 Written Dec 5, 2004

There are lots of little roadside stands, just like this one, in the rural areas of Costa Rica. We stopped here for cold refreshing Imperiale beer, during our ride. Chips and other snacks were also available.

Favorite Dish: We got addicted to these little lime-flavoured chips, which we have searched for everywhere, to no avail!
