  • Thermal springs complex

by Spudzinabag Updated Feb 14, 2004

The Tabacon hot springs complex is set in lush gardens at the foot of Arenal Vlocano. The springs are fed by several naturally magma heated mountain streams. You can take a dip in several natural and man made jacuzzis and streams. Temperatures vary, the warmest of streams about 40 degrees. Afterwards unwind with a massage or rehydrate/dehydrate at one of the poolside bars

    Club Rio

by GracesTrips Updated Dec 18, 2014

The Springs Resort & Spa also own a facility called Club Rio. It's an outdoor activity center and wildlife preserve. If you stay at the hotel, you receive a complimentary tour of the wildlife preserve. Other activities you would pay for are river rafting, zip lining, rock climbing, river tubing, horseback riding, hiking, fishing and mountain biking. Since, we had a one night stay, we only did the wildlife preserve tour which was great! It was more of a "zoo" but for rescued animals. It was quite interesting and worth seeing! I don't have an address - when we were at the hotel, a shuttle took us there and brought us back. I have posted a monkey video from the preserve.

See more photos of the wildlife preserve on my travelogue!

    Waterfalls

by amybrooke Written Mar 12, 2006

La Fortuna was our destination while on the horses. Be really careful when climbing down cause there are few gaurd rails and the steps are really slippery. It is worth the trouble when you reach the bottom.

  • Tabacon

by endbegins Written Jun 7, 2005

A must in Arenal. I went only to enjoy spring water pools (lots of them, different temperatures), so I can't tell about the buffet,
and had real fun. My advice: go there after 7 pm (it closes at 10 pm), cause it's cheaper. Very nice at night, 3 h is more than enough and have some drinks at the bar in the pool.

  • Volcano and surroundings.

by endbegins Written Jun 7, 2005

It's cloudy most of times so it's hard to see it but if you're patient you'll get it.
Nice paths to walk in the area, all through deep forests with poweful vegetation and some cute animals (basiliscos). Deep forest could turn into a volcaninc rock desert in a few meters.

    Toad Hall

by GracesTrips Written Dec 28, 2014

Yes, it peaked our curiosity because we see signed along the road side about every 50 feet that tell you that Toad Hall is coming up. So, we stopped. And, it is like a tourist trap, hostel, with a slight view. We stopped and looked around. That was about it.

How can plants grow this big!?

So much of what we saw here amazed us! It was incredible to see many of our houseplants living in their natural environment, and to realize how big they can really get, given the perfect conditions.

About 15 minutes away from the Eco-Lodge is the town of Tilaran. This beautiful church is located right in the center of the town, in the town square.

We took a horse ride up to Lake Fortuna to see the waterfalls. This is a picture of two locals we passed on the way up.

This for me was better at night. I went during both day and night, but thought it was more enjoyable at night with the volcano erupting in the pretty red.

Odd to find a German Bakery in Costa Rica. So, we had a look. Ordered a pastry and went on our way.
