We went on some trips with a local guide who drove just the two of us around. The price was comparable to going through the hotel, but we had a private car, with our own guide, and we spent as much time as we wanted, doing whatever we wanted.We at first gave him a chance because of his friendly demeanor and he seemed honest.We were definitely pleased and would recommend going with him on a tour. He took us to a rodeo where we were the only tourists!
Playa Junquillal is a definite treasure. It is a bit out of the way but I have visited here the last three times I was in Costa Rica. The second time I was here I was able to help some scientist release baby sea turtle. A very special experience.There is only one way to access the town which has only one dirt road and it deadends just past the beach.
