Enjoy the animals in this village. The howler monkeys are everywhere!!! Cows and chickens were always strolling about.

Attend the CPI Language School in nearby Flamingo (1 km away). The staff and organization are extremely professional hence the higher prices than you will find in other places but a great program. They will either find a homestay for you or if you are living in the area as I was you can attend that way as well. The school also organizes numerous activities to do when you aren't attending classes. Sandra was my contact person and would be able to answer any questions you may have.

The CPI Spanish Language School in nearby Flamingo (1km) offers volunteer opportunities. You can volunteer to meet with school children who would like to practice their English. We met with them in an old schoolhouse (see photos) and would just chat with them for an hour or so. It was great fun. Of course the boys all said they wanted to move to the US to be cowboys!!!!

Go to the nearby village of Flamingo to the Spanish School and tell them you want to go horseback riding. A local will meet you there and take you for a ride wherever you want. I think I pd $15 US for 2 hours. We rode along the beach, through villages, etc.

Head to the centre of the village for the weekly game of soccer. Rival teams from nearby villages come to compete in a match that gets everyone in the village out and watching! Be sure to do this as this is the most excitement that happens all week in the village.

We bought bicycles at the only store in town and they were our primary method of transportation. I wish we would have rented a car or motorbike as Potrero is so far from anything and the roads are so potholed it is hard to ride a bike not to mention there are no streetlights so it is impossible to bike after 5pm. Buses to other towns/cities do come to nearby Flamingo village throughout the day and are an affordable way to travel but they tend to be slow.

This is the ONLY store in the village. They do carry a lot of things but it is only the size of a local neighbourhood general store. The owners, two brothers, are very friendly and nice. They ordered in things for us if they didn't have them. You MUST eat the yoghurt with chocolate balls to go on top! We bought them out every day!!!

Potrero is such a small village the services are EXTREMELY limited. Here are some photos of the services in town: the only store, the school, and the mechanics shop.
