Parque nacional Marino las Baulas

by a005116

The national park 'las Baulas' is one of the major spots (the largest of the pacific) for the impressive leatherback turtles. Every night (season peak in November-January) the turtles come to lay their eggs in the sand. Because of their weight it takes up to 1,5 hour to finish the job and go back in the sea. In march the little ones come out and start their race to the water, terrorized by hungry birds, iguanas, ... and the sun. Not so many make it, but those who do still have a hard live before them. When you look to the statistics you'll see that the number of leatherbacks are decreasing extremely fast. I worked together with the other park rangers and the biologists to make sure there is no single problem for these sensitive animals to lay there eggs. The biologists did a great part of the research and wedid the other part and made sure the eggs where save for preditors ánd humans....

Must Contact- Avispa's Adventures

by johnnmary

We just got back from Costa Rica. This was probably the best vacation we have ever had, mainly due to Avispa's Adventures. We used them for all of our tours and transportation services. They do small group and private tours and take you to places off the beaten bath. There prices are competative to those of the larger tours companies but their personal service and attention to detail is no comparison. They think of every little detail from Wet naps and bug spray to WINE in the Hot Springs! They do what ever it takes to make shure that EVERYONE can enjoy Costa Rica. They really how to show you Costa Rica Amy is from the US and speaks English and her husband is Costa Rican with a natural eye for wildlife like no other. On the MUST do list would be their MIRAVALLES VOLCAN ADVENTURE and their PALO VERDE ADVENTURE. You can contact Amy directly at info@avispasadventures.com She and her staff...

Miravallas Water Fall and Canopy Tour

by weluv2travel

Amazing day. Private tour guide picked us up at 7:30am and we started our adventure to the base of Miravallas volcano to do ziplining through the rainforest canopy. He was great talking to us about the economics of the country and went through little towns along the way.Once we arrived at base of mountain we each had our own guide. They suited us up with our harnesses and started our climb to the first platform. 12 platforms in total I believe the highest being 150 feet and the longest 1.4 mile long back down to base camp. It was amazing to be standing in the rainforest with butterflies and birds. The canopy was so thick you didn't even feel the rain that was coming down. We were able to do all kinds of tricks like hanging up side down. It was soo much fun. After our ziplining we were served lunch at base camp. It was an authentic costa rican lunch served with tamarindo juice which I...

Guanacaste Tree

by easterntrekker

The Guanacaste Tree was declared the national tree of Costa Rica on August 31, 1959. The name "Guanacaste" originates from a native language called "náhuatl" and means "tree of the ears". This is because the fruits of the tree are similar to the shape ofthe human ear.Its a spectacular tree with huge branching form that provides much desired shade from the intense heat of the area.

Playa Hermosa Town

by easterntrekker

This was a very different town than we expected , and not as described in our guide book at all. The whole area is a constuction zone . Foreign money is flowing in and if there was a town its been leveled to make room for the condos. There a a few local restuarants remaining and no shops at all. You really need a car to see the area.To make it bleaker , we were there in the dry season so it was hot a desert like ...not much green .

Playa Hermosa Beach

by easterntrekker

This is a dark sand beach and is nice for a beach walk. Gorgeous sunsets. There's not much shade any where however and no sun umbrellas or chairs...gets pretty hot in the day. There are a couple of restaurants and bars on the beach. Fishing charters also leave from here.

Baldi Thermal Hot Springs

by modsquads

There are many reviews of this place on VT, and I understand why...this place is surreal. I mean, who doesnt love an in-pool bar? Each pool isdifferent, and get progressively hotter as you meander along the stone paths among the tropical plants & trees. We spent HOURS there, spending alot of time taking in each area. Admission is $25, then you can leave your credit card at the bar & drink all day! We were fortunate to meet a great couple from California, and ended up closing the place.
