Heredia: Where you find the National Park

I went on a day tour passing through the province of Heredia where the famous Braulio Carrillo National Park is located. The scenery is lush--full of vegetation and misty right after a downpour. It is close to San Jose and you often pass through this national park en route to other tourist-oriented parts of Costa Rica.

I went on a tour with Ecoscape where the famous "Highlights Tour" is offered. The highlights tour provides a full day tour through the following sights: Siempre Verde coffee plantation with its lovely gardens and a full breakfast, Poas volcano, waterfalls, Hummingbird gallery, the impressive Selva Verde Jungle Lodge with buffet lunch, Sarapiqui Jungle River cruise, and the gorgeous scenery along the way.

This remarkable tour takes you to breathtaking places all in one day! It is well-worth its very reasonable price.

Zip Lining

Oh the Rush!

If you want to conquer your fear of heights, Zip Lining is definitely for you. There are different heights and different lengths for each cable. There are usually twelve cables. The first one is this puny thing, which can get you over confident. By the time you get the 6th one (the longest and highest one) you want to cry to mama.

Zip lining is incredible. As you are zipping along the cable you can see above the rain forest and every little village in sight. The scary thing is that you may never stay straight, so when you are zipping along the cable and your body starts to twist and you hear this horrifying sound, do not worry it is normal. Also, there have been incidents where one has been stuck out in the middle of the cable. I have two suggestions, listen to the instructors and always have your body parallel to the cable. If you care to angle towards the cable you will slow down and could possibly get caught in the middle of the cable hanging about one thousand feet in the air.

As you zip along the cable the sights are gorgeous. I went to the one in Monte Verde. Monte Verde is a tourist town with so much to do. It was my favorite trip in Costa Rica. We went horse back riding, zip lining, ate great authentic food and stay in a fabulously cheap and comfortable hotel.

Act like locals and sit in the many benches of the Parque Central, look at people and what they are doing, read a book, write your diary or post cards home or have a little to eat or just rest your legs - this is your place.

There are many lovely colonial buildings in Heredia, too. Just take a walk in the centre and you cannot help noticing them.
