Don't let appearences fool you! The house may not look like much but the chicken was great! The woman has a deep fryer on her front porch & she cooks up pieces of chicken & serves it on a paper plate.
I don't think food is served from this house any longer. It looked quite empty on our last visit.
Favorite Dish: The only dish appeared to be fried "chikin' ".............hot, deep fried & greasy but mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...finger lickin' good!
Favorite Dish: Marlin filet in Coconut curry, served with rice, vegetables, fried plantain. Try the fresh fruit refrescos. The owner brought us some complementary carambola (star fruit) with sugar so we could try it.
Ingrid's place is clean & the food is excellent. Ingrid herself is Columbian & her husband is Dutch. We became fast friends with Ingrid & she treats us like family when ever we arrive.
Favorite Dish: We like pretty much everything we tried except the "pulpo" (octopus) cerviche but that's only because we don't like octupus :)
The Sol y Mar is only open for breakfasts from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. & this is by far our favorite place in town for breaky. The meals are reasonable & the restaurant is clean. Upstairs they have hotel rooms & on the side is their Sol y Mar Gift Shop. All parts of the Sol y Mar are run by long time residents, the Fergusons. Walter "Mr. Gavitt" Ferguson the caribbean's most famous calypsonian lives next door to the Sol y Mar.
Favorite Dish: EVERYTHING is good!!! Try their breakfasr sandwiches....they are great for take out if you plan to walk through the National Park.
At the place-to-be in Cahuita, the Cocos Bar (see my nightlife-tip) you can also have a meal. There is a small restaurant that is attached to the bar itself, but you can also order some small dishes you can have in the bar itself: much better since you have a nice view of the streetlife here and you hear the nice music better.
The plates you can order are mainly local food: fried bananas or plantain, some white rice and chicken or fish. The special thing about Cahuita is that you can get much more seafood here then elsewhere in the country. So fresh fish and shimps are available here in different dishes and are an absolute must if you order your meal here!
Don't expect a perfect service here: the personnel is really used to bar-public and that is the way they serve you.
This is almost like a diner ...but with a caribbean feel . It´s an outdoor place and its open late. The food is good and the very cheap. You can get a club sandwich for $2.00.
Jose always waits on us and is the main reason we go back . Don´t know if he means to be comical but we get a real kick out of him.
And he gives us a story to take home.
Us- How´s the food
Us- Depends on what
Him- On who´s cookin
Us- Well who´s cookin tonight
Him- Ah they´re all up there
We were sceptical...but the foods always great ..maybe because he doesn´t get our hopes up!
Favorite Dish: All of it is always good
Just as good as we remembered. As usual by husband went for the hot jerk snapper . I had the coconut milk snapper. Huge meal!! Two fish each with rice and veggies.. 4 beers . Total $30.00. I think she has the best caribbean food in the Caribbean coast. . Everything is cooked by large woman with an infectiuos smile...making us believe we might be in Jamiaca
Favorite Dish: All of it . The lobster is amazing when she has it!
This is a great place for Chinese food in Cahuita. Huge portions.....you won't leave hungry.
There are other non chinese dishes on the menu as well......all good.
Favorite Dish: The "especial" chowmein is excellent as is pretty much every dish we tried
The Restaurant Relax used to be right down town Cahuita. The first time we went to their new location I thought "wow, that's a long dark walk for the average tourist on foot". We drove so I can't say exactlty how far it is. The new building though is very impressive, the food is wonderful & I'd highly recommend it. The service was fantastic too & the staff was very attentive & friendly.
Favorite Dish: I tried shark (tibaron) for the first time...tastey. Everyone in our group loved their meals (marlin, tenderloin).
Walter, the owner is a super great guy. Most times he would pull up a chair & sit & chat for quite awhile. We ate there a lot.
Favorite Dish: The chicken was good as was pretty much anything we tried. If you order the banana split be warned it's not like you'd get at home....it's a banana with ice cream & some greenery for decorative purposes. It's good, local cooking & a great place to people watch from.
This is a simple small town place. It´s the first to open for breakfast...before 7AM. Gaudy plastic flowers and simple wooden tablesadd to its charm. Warm frindly service!
Favorite Dish: Tropical fruit platter with yougurt and a pancake and coffee $7.00
The restaurant RELAX is no longer in front of Coco's Bar, you find it now on the main street to Puerto Viejo, left hand. It's still a delicious restaurant and the owners Serafino and Graciela are very friendly.
While the food can indeed be excellent, the service never has been. We had a relative of Miss Edith's that we know well, recommend we eat there. We did & we sure weren't impressed. We've tried it a couple of times more but honestly I'm not sure I would recommend it, not just beacuse the prices are higher but the crappy service. Miss Edith no longer cooks & isn't there much. Her daughters run the place mostly & they just don't seem to give a s**t whether you're there or not. We won't be back no matter how good the food is....there are plenty of other places that would appreciate our money more.
Favorite Dish: The "jerk" lobster or anthing "jerked" is excellent. I don't know if they still make them but the beetroot/ginger & other combos of juices are quite interesting.
Nice place, clean, great food.
Favorite Dish: The pizzas are one of our favorite meals here all though we've liked everything we've tried. When we order pizza we each get our own & "if" there's left overs we take it with us for later. The pizza is super thin crust & cooked to perfection. They have so many varieties it's hard to choose.
Relax is located right in the center of town on a large open-air second story. The views of the night life are interesting. The service is fast, the food is great, the people were friendly.
They have a variety of Italian dishes as well as some Mexican and local dishes. Certainly the Italian dishes are their specialty. A truly lovely place.
Really fast service, great food, fabulous view. A winner!
Favorite Dish: Definitely the spaghetti and pesto as well as their mixed drinks.
