    Because of Mosquitos

Luggage and bags: Soft side bags, small - don't bring a roller bag because roller bags don't roll on sand or dirt very well

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Long trousers NOT denium jeans. Denium takes too long to dry in this hot humid climate. Long trousers and semi-long sleeves help protect from mosquitoes

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sunscreen and mosquito repellant

    Cariari bus stop

Luggage and bags: Backpacking is the best way to travel in Tortuguero. A waterproof cover would be nice.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shorts, pants and t-shirts than can get a little dirty. 2 pairs of shoes (as one will get wet for sure) and Teva sandals. Windbreaker and long-sleeves shirts. Raingear, heavy duty poncho being ideal. Nothing fancy, except maybe for the lodge (I don't know, I've never been).

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sunscreen. Insect repellent. First aid kit. Anti-malaria drugs (Aralen).

Photo Equipment: Zoom lens for the wildlife pictures. Films and batteries, it wont be easy to find them here. Water-resistant bag.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Bathing suit if you want to dip a toe or two in the sea. Shades, hat, towel.

Miscellaneous: Spanish dictionnary, wildlife book, ziploc bags, binocular, flashlight, alarm and/or wrist-watch, cash (there's no bank in Tortuguero).

    Jungle protection

    Jungle walk

Luggage and bags: Going on a package deal, you will leave most of your luggage in your hotel in San José and only bring a small bag with the necessary stuff for your 2 to 3-days stay.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring light cotton cloths, a T-shirt with long sleeves and trousers for the jungle walk, slippers for the beach and a raincoat as this is one of the wettest areas of Costa Rica. Don't forget your sunglasses and head protection
You will also need gummi boots for your jungle walk, but they are provided by the hotel.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Insect repellant with DEET, good protection for the intensive sun (factor 20).
Medical precaution: hepatitis A and B.
We didn't bring anything against malaria.

Photo Equipment: Bring lots of films or memory cards and a big zoom lens (min. 300mm or 10x optical zoom) for those wildlife shots.
Don't forget your video camera for all those rain forest sounds and active wildlife.

Miscellaneous: Bring an adaptor if equipment is not 110 Volt and american standard.

Luggage and bags: Not many, as altough it's not a difficult trip you'd have to take a boat and all that.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring lots of t-shirts cuz you're gonna be sweaty all day long.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring repellent. It isn't really bad with mosquitos there but still...
