Beautiful scenery, amazingly fresh food, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere

so much more than surf and sand!
Between Dominical and Uvita is Marino Ballena National Park. This is the home winter home of whales that have come from both the Arctic and Antarctic. Supposedly, this is the only place in the Pacific where whales from both hemispheres meet. They whales have their calves here and some remain year round. Very cool seeing a 50 ton animal jump...more
It's a great place for surfing or learning to surf. For us, we prefer walking on the beautiful long beach after breakfast when the sun is not too strong. We walked from the mid area southward to almost Dominilito and back, took almost 40 min. Again, the beaches there are beautiful but they ain't white sand beaches like in Cuba, Maldives, Grand...more
If you've never been surfing before, I suggest taking lessons from the Green Iguana Surf Camp. Try and get lessons from 'Bob'. He's one of the best instructors there. The man's a legend in his own right. You'll learn a lot from this drill sargent. Dominical beach is a good place to learn and has decent waves. My favorite place to surf was Ventanas....more
Guachacha is a Carribean restaurant with nicely spiced dishes. It's right on the river has amazing murals of Bob Marley and Selassie outside. It's a family owned and operated restaurant and the owner's son is very cute! The ingredients are fresh from the local market. The vegetarian pasta was delicious.more
This place was the place to eat for all the surfers and tourists. It's right on the beach and the staff are quite the characters. Food here is the cheapest in town and but, doesn't lack in taste. Has a nice mix of local and diner dishes. Banana/guanabana/pinapple smoothies, fruit bowls w/banana bread and nachos.more

The tourist officials at the airport tried to...more
We were parked within eyesight of our car at a soda restaurant. THREE MEN CAME IN AND TWO DISTRACTED US WHILE THE THIRD WENT AND STOLE OUR VALUABLES.The car was locked. It was afternoon daytime. The car was in front of us. DONT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES OUT OF YOUR REACH. The police said they were professional thieves and that this happens all the time.more
We were pulled over in a 80 km zone going 100km while passing another car. The officer showed us a photocopy of the rates for tickets that showed a price of $600 US. Then he added the rental company's fee $200- making it $800 ticket. He proceeded to ask "HOW MUCH CAN YOU PAY NOW? and saw what I had in my wallet, which was $300, and he was going to...more
If you are using a car there, never leave any thing valuable in your car. Say if you have problem with your car and become immobile, keep an eye on the people that are helping you, if any. Do not ever let them distract you from looking over your personal belongings inside the car. We have been to CR a lot of times and seen enough tourists being...more
took a horse back ride out to these water falls that we climbed and jumped off at about 40'. alot of fun.
Dominical is a very small town. It's a favorite destination for surfers. All the locals, surfers and staff are very helpful, friendly and fun. My friends and I ended up hanging out at some of the locals' houses. If you're into just beach bumming it and hanging out, it's a great place to be.
Fondest memory: Photo sessions with some crazy ass surfers.
