Don't even need to get wet to enjoy the aquatic life, the mantas will swim right up to the boat here. This one was circling the boat just around happy hour....

Alcyone is probably the best overall dive site at Cocos. Here you can see most all the big pelagics: Schooing hammerheads, big schools of jacks, white tip reef sharks, even whale sharks are nice enough to stop by here. Jacques Cousteau visited here in 1987 and said it was one of the top dive sites in the world.

Snout to Snout with a Tiger shark by night... 2 more images

Manuelita is one of the best night dives in the world, and one of the few places where you can see not only swarming white tips, but also big sharks like Tigers and Galapagos up close. (I was snout to snout with this Tiger shark during one night dive there... range, maybe 1-2 meters...) One of the more exhillarating ways to spend your evening in Cocos..... :o))

Land Ho after the long crossing....

Be forewarned if you decide to make this trip, its a long way from the mainland. The crossing from Puntarenas to Cocos takes about 35 hrs, and most everyone on board (myself included) was pretty green around the gills by the time we reached the island.... (its more than worth it, but be sure to pack your sea sick meds before you head out....)

    When Dinos ruled the island....

Take heed where you make land fall on Cocos, this island that was used at the basis for Isla Nublar from Jurrasic Park. And based, on my brief beachside observations, it looks like there still is a velociraptor or two milling about here...
