 | Jacó Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 22 | | Imagine traversing from tree to tree, platform to platform using pulleys on horizontal traverse cables. Sailing through the treetops of the tropical rainforest canopy, and over the trails far below. In some case a couplem hundred feet below. Expert guides assist you in this exciting journey through the different layers of the rain forests and explain what is going on around you. This is a great way to see the inner Costa Rica, its natural beauty, and wildlife. It also can be humorous, especially when your friend is so heavy he gets stuck in teh middle of a run and they have to send someone out to get him! (Sorry, no picture of that yet.) Leave a Comment Directions: Ask someone in your hotel or any tour kiosk in town. Jaco is near 3 separate canopy tours, and from what I understand, neither one is better than the next.

I was saying "but" because, as I have more than once said on my pages, I'm not crazy for the touristic spots and I prefer to discover little visited places like Playa Esterillos Este at about 25 km southeast of Jacó after the most famous Playa Hermosa. The place seems really undiscovered by tourism - which should have made me put this under off the beaten path but why an hidden place shouldn't be a must see as well... ;-)? Do not expect infrastructures and if you need a bathroom, go to the kiosk at the right corner of the road going to the beach, the man at the counter will ask you if you need to use it to undress or to actually use the bathroom and according to your answer, he will charge you (anyway a few cents of colones in both cases) but do not go bare footed, it's not exactly spick and span... Leave a Comment Directions: go south-east on the paved Costanera from Jacó to Quepos

the beach doesn't seem to have a good public relation service ;-)... I mean it's not the white, fabulous beach you would expect to see here but I have read it's popular among surfers and that both hoteliers and tourism industry people make effort to keep it clean... however only a few km away begin the 10 km of playa Hermosa but... a silly note: in the pic the rabbit promontory which reminds me a radio programma I really like: "il ruggito del coniglio" (the roar of rabbit)... If you have a few freinds with you, you'll want to get yourself on a boat and go have the time of your life. We got outselves a 38 footer, and for just over $100 a guy, we got a ride into Quepos (the local boats were all booked up), 12 hours of deep sea fishing, all you can eat and drink on board (the chef was awesome), and more laughs than you can shake a stick at. Our guide was also thoughtful enough to ask if we wanted him to call a few whores to come along on the boat with us. We respectfully declined. Leave a Comment Directions: Again, check with your hotel or a tour kiosk in town.

A sunset cruise on the Rio Grande Tarcoles. An amazing encounter with the avifauna and large crocodile population of this impressive but calm river. The sunset sets the mood for the gorgeous colors and animation of the mangrove and banks. Really something to see and experience. 2 hours boat ride (one guide, one driver, about 20 seated places, covered boat), 30 minutes from Jaco. They can pick you up at your hotel. 40$ per person including transport. They also give you a precious identification guide. We saw crocodiles by the dozen. At some point, the captain even got out to feed one of their resident with a dead chicken. It was the occasion for some nice pictures! But we also saw numerous birds: Pelicans, herons, egrets, ducks, stilts, whimbrels, sandpipers, vultures, hawks, ara macao, parrots, kingfishers, motmots, kingbirds, wrens, orioles, tanagers and so on! And got an amazing view over the area, espacially respledisent at sunset. The only thing seperating the tour from being one of the best of my life was the lack of experience or preparation or organisation in the boat. The guide would describe birds on only one side of the boat, so if you're seated on the wrong one, you don't get to see much (sit on the side of the guide!). The captain fed the crocodile from shore, but straigt in front of the boat, so anyone sitting beyond the third row wouldn't catch much of the show... But overall, an amazing experience, a great way to explore the wildlife and make contact with the ecosystem. We saw at least 2 dozon...wouldn't want to walk along the river bank....we could see them lying in wait for lunch!! Address: Tarcoles RiverDirections: Near Carara

The town of Jaco is small, and has only about 5,000 residents. Despite this, it still has anything you'll need to have a memorable tropical vacation. But take advantage of it's smallness, and have a nice walk the first day you're there. Get accustomed to what is there and where everything is. You'll be amazed on how quickly you pick things up. Here is a picture of Mark, Enrique and Rob while walking back from doing a booze run at the Super Las Olas. Leave a Comment

Partying at one of Jaco's many nightclubs is a must for someone staying in the town. There are many places, but some are more popular than others. The Monkey Bar is a neat place sporting big screen TV's on the walls playing surf videos while the dj spins everything from latin club music to 50cent. Many good lookin' ladies here and a big dance floor. Go Crazy , Pura Vida Leave a Comment Directions: on Avienda Pastor Diaz just down the way from the Onyx bar.

The Onyx is a really nice place to start the night. The upstairs is where the bar and pool tables are located, with an open air view of the main drag. We became friends with the awesome bartender by the name of Emerson, if you're ever there treat him right. This is often a place for gringos so if you want to meet some people from your homeland then this is a good place. Leave a Comment Directions: Avienda Pastor Diaz
