Surfing...where do i start...im no master by any means...although it does everything for me...laid back and enjoying the natural world...if your in mal pais or anywhere you got to try it!!

Equipment: There are quite a few places in mal pais to rent boards but only 4 that i can think of that sell them...Andy and Erin at the main surf shop as you walk down to the beach from franks make some killer boards....they got a lot of rentals too.... very easy to get lessons in this town....probably around 25 us for a hour.... A long board is almost a must for some days here...dont forget your short ripper either though...long lefts and shortly longer rights....the only problem being you need a swell coming from the north west to get those really nice pealers.....stick and dont be affraid to claim it....if mal pais is closing out its easy to move up and down the beach to find another type of break...athough if you go south of the tropicana( bar on the ocean you better no what your doing.....its a reef break)

For surfing and bodyboarding, Mal Pais is a great place, with waves year round, but the big ones coming during summer. There are a few spots btween the Mal Pais, playa st Teresa stretch of beach.
We boarded in Mal Pais a left reef, which is shallow, hollow and fast, so be sure you can ride this kinda wave, and the beach break in front of Frank's Place. A nice beachbreak, which won't show it's potential until atleast overhead, below that it is a fun hotdog wave.

Equipment: Surfing: fast narrow boards for fast hollow reefs and a few good beachbreak boards.
BodyBoarding: best thing is to bring a thicker board or one with a stringer, cause it is hot and the boards will get soft, very soft. I didn't have a board with stringer, so I had to totally redefine my boarding cause my board strated to flex a bit too much.

    Mal Pais Surfing

This was my first time trying to surf so I don't really know how good the waves were, but in the evening there were a lot of really good surfers out.

Equipment: There are many surf shops for such a small town to rent boards. We rented at the shop on the road down to the beach.
