    Montezuma is safe

by Snipernurse Written Jun 4, 2008

I never felt in danger at any time in Montezuma. Everywhere in the world warrents certain awareness about safety issues and Montezuma is no exception. I felt safer here then I do in certain parts of my hometown of Modesto, California

    Slooow, sloooow internet

    by Anita_Porec Written Jun 27, 2006

If you are heading to Montezuma for a few days, you may want to tell your friends you'll catch up with them later.

I've tried to send e-mails about three times on separate days...and they all failed. I'm sure the situation is not always the same, but it is to be expected.

The good thing is, you will not get charged if you just sat there staring at the screen for 45 minutes.

Don't let your guard down completely...

    by tracynew72 Written Jun 22, 2006

It's easy to feel safe in Montezuma - the town is so relaxed that you never want to leave... the vibe is relaxed and the people are friendly....

HOWEVER - on the night that most people go to town for dinner and dancing, a ring of thieves made way thru the unguarded hotel rooms and cars taking passports, cameras, cash and anything else of value.

Keep your valuables on you at all times!

You need cash, but keep it on you!

    by tracynew72 Written Jun 22, 2006

You want to make sure you have cash before you arrive, it is around $5.00 to take $20.00 out of the only ATM in town - but KEEP IT ON YOU AT ALL TIMES! Theives are as common as the howler monkeys in the trees, hoping you will let down your guard in this seemingly safe coastal community.

    Jellyfish stings

    by Mel_UK Written Apr 27, 2005

This was the type that got me....

Beware on the smaller beach (the one you see when you step off the bus)..On a calm day, when the sea is invitingly blue and tranquil, and a gentle offshore breeze is blowing - the Potuguese man of War jelly fish come to shore! I got stung pretty badly, but was lucky enough not to need medical attention. Afterwards i felt like i was in a scene out of a Jaws film - everytime i saw a kid about to get in the sea i felt like running up and down screaming "GET OUT OF THE WATER!!". I also heard that the water was not so clean here either, tho it looked fine to me. Just take care...

    Watch out for the jellyfish!

Although the water looks tempting and is perfect for an early morning or late night swim, there are a few jelly fish that often come close to shore. Make sure your're watching out for them:)

After it's been raining the river is pretty fierce and the trail to the waterfalls is pretty dangerous.
