  • Jade Luna: 4 star in the jungle

by crystlepistle Updated Apr 4, 2011

Surreal to come from a week's trek in the jungle and sit down to a 4 star restaurant complete with linen tablecloths, candlelight and fancy fold napkin. Food is The Best & without any complaints from any hotel guests I have sent there for the last 2 years. A treat not to be missed.

Favorite Dish: Freshly caught seafood....straight from the your fishing trip (or someone else's who shares), prepared and served to your table. Complimented with tropical fruit salsas and fresh local produce. Good wine selection and a variety of homemade ice cream desserts. My favorite is ginger ice cream. Yum.

  • Jade Luna: Unforgettable meal from a fine chef

by JohnBriegel Written Nov 23, 2006

Its been 16 months since we ate there; it will remain unforgettable.
The most beautiful atmosphere and very fine food.
We came right back within the week.
Finding a fine chef in the rainforest at value prices was the highlight of the trip.

    The italian

    by BEETLE_VERTE Written Mar 15, 2006
Me on the back terrace of the italian restaurant

It was recommended to us. The menu had great fish promises. And then there's always the pizza... The terrace in the back is great, rugged wood furniture under huge tropical trees. The dinning room inside is also very smart.

Favorite Dish: I ordered a surf&turf which turned out to be watery shrimps, bits and pieces of dry pork and fried bananas. It was weird and it wasn't all that good. Not bad, but not sectacular. A bit pricey too for what we had in mind.

    Other customers seemed lukewarmed too

Agua Luna: Great fish in the mangrove

    by BEETLE_VERTE Written Mar 15, 2006
Road leading to Agua Luna restaurant (on right)

A great big ballroom-like dinning room with linen cloth and candle, facing the ocean and the sandy beach... but for the every night supper, we prefered to sit in the back, on the little porch facing the mangrove. From the little tables ligned on the wood terrace that seemed suspended over the calm water of the mangroves, we could hear birds, jumping fishs or roaming crocodiles. The relax ambiance coming from the bar also sat the tone of the evening. The waiter is very polite and courteous. The menu is varied and included local rice receipes, fish, burgers and some chineese food. The prices are low. But most importantly: the food is delicious!!

One set back. The cook is very slow. Very slow. And he cooks one dish at a time only, no matter how long. So my friend and I always received our meals, hmmm I don't know, 15 minutes appart... The first one was almost finished when the second plate was ready. Always.

    We saw them deliver.

Favorite Dish: First, the pina en leche (pineapple milkshake) is exquisite here. Always start with that.

All the fish platters are divine. We tried them all, they are all good. The filet in mushroom sauce, the griled garlic whole fish, the paned filet with tartar sauce, ... Generally for 2000 colones a plate. Total less than 15$ for 2 with drinks.

Ranchito: Exquisite casado & privileged soccerfield view!

    by BEETLE_VERTE Written Mar 9, 2006
lunch and show at the Ranchito

A small comfortable efficient affordable and affable familly own restaurant overlooking the soccerfield. Best way to enjoy a lunch in Puerto Jimenez is to sit on the shadeed terrasse of the Ranchito, order a milkshake and watch a game on the soccer field while the ara macaw parrots cheers up the local team... and your casado is being prepared.

Favorite Dish: Casado con bistec without a doubt. They cook the meat very well, with taste and skills. The side order vary everyday and are always good. We had breakfast there once; interesting but not my favorite.
