San Rafael Things to Do

  • Projecto de Pesca Recreativa

a nice lady of the group of the Rainmaker walk adviced a yummy tilapia (a fish) so fresh that you fish it... and she was speaking not metaphorical, you fish it and for me, who are such an animal lover, it was fairly terrible... but I can understand fishers appreciate it... while I valued a lot the welcome of the owner: the curious looks were more...

  • an heroic parrot...

don't miss this place, the Projecto de Pesca Recreativa for a lot of good reasons and not last the reason why your host created this place: to get the necessary money to send her children to univerisity and I'm not one who doesn't wait to be asked twice to chat so he also introduced to me his yougest daughter and when he asked me to wait for his...

  • notes...

a couple of notes on the park:it's not cheap expecially because tours and admissions in CR normally cost for tourists 4 times what locals pay and this walk costed 30 US $ per person...don't expect mammals but the naturalist guides will show you every single leaf, insect, and bird...

  • earring...

and then he finds an unusual earring: the guide offered it to the men but I seemed the only one to want to try this little animal which honestly doesn't hurt even if it's biting you becoming a natural earring... but I was also the only one to offer my hand on which passed both not poisoning and poisoning fluffy bugs with more legs ;-)... I'm asking...

  • kakadu...

you can accomodate them, provided they want ;-) and the kakadu didn't want to...the man on the left is the manager of the place and he has a lovely wife who translated for me at the Projecto de Pesca Recreativa, I'm sorry I didn't took any pic of her...

  • parrot &...

and before or after the walk, you can pet the beauiful parrot and kakadu and you can also accomodate them on your arms...

at about 40 km from Jacó, there is Parrita after which going in the direction of Quespos, near the water tower turn left (of course turn right if you come from Quepos and it's about 15 km from it).

you are now inland and follow the indications because you still have to turn left and it's about 7 km of off road (a part of it in my pic: they are just grown palms at sunset on my way back).

Rainmaker and the Projecto Recreativo are a couple of km from each other.

I have also read you can also be picked up at hotels both in Quepos or Manuel Antonio but the supposed to be agency in Quepos was closed as it was sunday when I was there so I cannot confirm...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: remember to wear your bath suit because about half way of the walk, before the suspended bridges there is a lagoon where you take a refreshing swim and there is also a rope hanging so to let you hang to it to throw yourself like Tarzan, it's great fun once overcome the fear to hang suspended on water...

in the pic a dragon, on the left of the tree... I know, I know it's not the most suitable name but it's called so...

    a dragon...
