by pollon it can be silly but at first I didn't know exactly which flying companies go to Costa Rica and the one I found less expensive was Martin Air. still about silly things: in case you have been given one of those headset by a flying companies, bring it with you, the Martin Air doesn't give it for free, even if they ask a little nothing for them... Apart from international flights, there are also domestic ones for those who want to go from San José to anywhere in the country or to the beaches. They are fast and comfortable. Some airlines that offer this service are Sansa (tel. (506) 221-9414) and Travelair (tel. (506) 232-7883) Theme: Airplane

by Luis_Alberto I flew there, directly from Los Angeles International Airport, it took aproximately 4 and half hours. San Jose its an easy city to get around, since it is not that big, and the downtown area is quite compact. Taxis are plentiful and reasonable. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Busy by boltonian Nice enough airport. Arrivals is nice, bank services, quick customs etc. Going home, we had a long wait. You must pay departure tax ($26) then join very badly organised que systems. Get here early, there are plenty of bars and shops once you get through security. A taxi to downtown is $12. The meter seems to be rising very quickly, but that is only becasue it goes up in 1 pence intervals. There is a cheaper bus service, but unless you are on a very tight budget, just get a taxi as the city isn't easy to navigate until you get your bearings. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

airport mirrored on its window... by pollon about cabs, there is only one company for the service FROM the airport to the town centre: the orange cabs, and the price is 10 US$ but no need to bargain, there is a kiosk where you pay for the trip this fixed amount and where they accept credit cards. while from town TO the airport, any cab can offer you the service and then you can and had better to bargain ;-)... San José has a quite nice system of buses covering the principal routes from downtown to other areas and vice versa. The price is cheap (100-130 colones depending on the route) and it's comfortable. There are also near four bus stations, from which Coca Cola is the most relevant since from it depart most of local buses and transportation to other provinces and touristic areas, also at cheap prices (I got a round-trip of 1500 colones to go to Quepos, to spend the weekend at Manuel Antonio beach, and the trip was OK). However, you should be careful of not being alone at night at this place, because you could be the victim of some people trying to fool or steal tourists. Theme: Bus

Taxis are another popular way of transportation. They have taximeters, but many drivers don't use them if there's an agreement with the client (to tell you the truth, never was used when I was driven). From Juan Santamaria airport to San José the price range from US$12-15. For a 5-minute ride, or the shortest possible, they usually ask 1500 colones (around US$5), and from San Pedro, Escazů or Santa Ana to downtown it was around 2500-3000 colones (around US$7-8). Taxi drivers accept dollars, if you don't have colones. Theme: Other

Taxis are plentiful in San Jose and it is recommended that you use them, especially at night, because the city can be very dangerous. There are certain situations that you need to avoid though. First, never take the taxis that are waiting in front of hotels. They automatically charge you extra because they are "hotel taxis" and it doesn't matter where you are going, if you are a guest at the hotel, or whatever. Second, always ask the driver to turn on the meter. There is a law that says that he must use it but many try to get around this. At the end of your ride they will look at you and arbitrarily name a price. If the taxi driver refuses to use the meter or says that it is not working tell him where you are going and demand that he set a price before the ride starts. Try to remember what you pay to go certain distances and be willing to argue for your money. I once had a driver take me a short distance and ask for a ridiculous price. I told him what the ride should cost and that I wasn't going to pay a penny more. I handed him the money, got out of the cab, and he took it with a frown. He knew that he was wrong and that was the end of it. Many cab drivers will offer to give you their cellphone number and be available to take you wherever you need to go for a certain price. I think that this might be a good option (if you can find a driver that you trust) for non-Spanish speakers. Just remember to tip him well for any extra info or service that he provides. Theme: Other
