Not too far from downtown San Jose is Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá, home of Deportivo Saprissa; one of the biggest and best clubs on the continent.

The Costa Rican league essentially runs year round, with two different "seasons". The Invierno part runs from late July until mid-December and then the Verano part runs from January until mid-May. Each part has its own playoffs, and there are international competitions like the CONCACAF Champions League that run simultaneously, so unless you are there in June, there should always be a chance to go to a game at some point.

Tickets are really cheap too, at least compared to USA sporting events. We attended Saprissa vs Santos, the 2nd leg of the Verano quarterfinals and tickets for our section were 5000 colones (about $10) each. We actually paid 6000 colones ($12) as we bought from scalpers so that we wouldn't have to wait in line, but tickets were available from the ticket window as well. There was a good sized crowd, but it wasn't sold out by any means. We were told that only the derby against Alajuelense sells out, so you should be able to score some tickets very easily for any other competition.

Saprissa is a great team to watch too. As I mentioned above, they are one of the best club teams on the continent. They have numerous Costa Rican international players on their roster (and sometimes even other nation's internationals as well, check online to find their most recent roster) and, as of this writing, they are the last non-Mexican team to have won the CONCACAF Champions League title (back in 2005). They have also posted the best ever CONCACAF performance in the Club World Cup, where they took 3rd place that same year.

One last thing, you can also buy jerseys outside of the stadium. They vary in price and quality. I wasn't too concerned about quality, so I found one for 4000 colones ($8). I saw some nicer ones for double that as well.

ARENAL VOLCANO

On my 3rd Visit to Costa Rica. I took the Arenal volcano Baldi hotsprings tour.

Baldi hotsprings seem a little larger and not as crowded at Tobacon excuse my spelling.
Baldi was a little cheaper but we did not eat at Baldi they took us somewhere else with a view of Arenal. The food was OK and the Coffee was Great.

They closed off the slide into the hotsprings and saw guys -construction workers building, maintaining the water park. They were also girl watching another sport i like.

They have a couple of swimup bars that serve food and drinks with views of Arenal.
Also have outdoor massage table area for a price $$$. I dont know how much.

Equipment: for a deposit you can rent towells, lockers.

Bring sandals and your own towell to save $$$$.

I went on this ATV tour. We drove on trails on top of the Mountain with great views of the city.
We drove Yamaha Fourtrax ATV. We wore helmets and followed the guide around dirt packed and gravel trails.

The guide picked us up from our hotel in San Jose in a 4 wheel drive van and drove us up the mountain. After a couple of hours we returned and had lunch and drove around somemore.
We brought our cameras and took pics during our short rest stops along the trail.

$ 85 dollars for- Pick up,ATV tour and lunch.

At the west end of downtown is a huge wooded park, La Sabana, that was the original airport for San Jose. It has since been converted into a series of athletic parks with a soccer stadium in the north-west corner. The park is ideal for running, walking, sports or picnicking.

gooooaaaaaalllll

Costa Rica is no different from any other Latin American nation--it is football crazy.

Every bar has the tv turned to the football matches and at the hotels two out of every three tv stations show the latest football highlights.

Furthermore, every town and village has a football field in varying states of repair.
