Constructed in 1917, the main post office is still functioning today. On the first floor is the Museum of Stamps with free admission. A small park parallels the building across the Calle 2 pedestrian mall. Open 7 am to 9 pm weekdays, Sat. from 8 am to noon.

fig trees loom over post office

This was the only building in San Jose that exuded any type of historical relevance. And even that is a facade. The Post Office was built in 1917--far later than the style would suggest.

The ajoining plaza is shaded by massive fig trees and was the most attractive pedestrian wayfare that we saw.

The Central Post Office is an architectural masterpiece. The Victorian style of architecture is very prominent and clearly seen on this structure.
