Buy souvenirs in Sarchi if you get there. Prices are the same wherever you go but in other towns selections are smaller and most sales people don't want to negotiate the price.
when looking for gifts souveniers and takehome stuff, even cheap food for the hotel room munchies / snacks. find a local market supermarket you pay less, get more and the selection may suprise you.

Q: Can anyone recommend something, moderately priced, w/ pool & a/c?
A: Banana Azul is wonderful. You should wait until September and October for the best weather there. Samasati is also very nice, a wellness center.
