Surfing

by satyagraha

Great surf in Playa Giones and in Garza. Places are 3 hours south of Tamarindo (tourist trap) with comparable surf. 5-6 foot swells are common. Sonny Garcia has a surf school here. Bring your board or rent and take a class

windsurfing gorge like ramps extreme wind port tack air bring your own gear if you can stand the hassle or rent from two local places . both are on the west side of lake arenal across fomr one another. neither offer equipment insurance( but most of those charges anywhere these days are a scam)tico winds has the better gear.

Surfing at Tamarindo Beach

by Paul2001

The surfing at Tararindo Beach is very good. It is in fact supposed to be at times fantastic but while I was there the waves were fairly low. That said that makes this a great place to learn to surf which a lot of people were doing while I was there. In fact I observed a seven year old English girl who took up the sport like a natural. (I wonder if there is a good place to surf in England?). Surfboards can be rented a numerous shops in case you did not bring your own.

Zipline Tour is a real "highlight!!"

by BarbaraRT

Monteverde Cloud Forest Sky Trek Canopy Tour was a blast!! We took some rain gear and small waterproof cameras. Hiking boots are good. All of the helments, harnesses, gloves, safety lines and hardware are provided.

Horseback Riding

by SumTingWong

All over Costa Rica you will have the oppertunity to go horesback riding. From Monteverde to Jaco Beach the horses are everywhere. You can get to see some really cool scenery and sunsets no matter where you are. If you like horseback riding Costa Rica is the place to go. Have long pants and sneekers or shoes.

Up for some awesome Zip Lining?

by SumTingWong

Jungle Zip Lining is one of Costa Rica's most thrilling activities. The Adventura Canopy is the best zip lining in Costa Rica, located in Monteverde. What is zip lining you may ask? ...well zip lining is where you have the oppertunity to fly through the jungle as you are hookes with a pully on a cord through the treetops. There are guides to help you and connect you to the cords along the way. It's really a lot of fun!! You must do in if you are in Monteverde!!!

Futbol

by SumTingWong

Football is very popular in Costa Rica. I saw a few matches in Santa Elena at the school field. Its a lot of fun anf you really get involved with the culture. Kids screaming for their team, its fun! Go out and watch, or try and play in a Football match!

Surfing

by harvicane

Consistent warm fun surf. Lots of variety, especially in the Playa Grande area. Lots of quality breaks within driving distance. Be careful, while very consistent, always a chance for lack of swell. A fish or some sort of hybrid should work best and for most swell conditions.

the best spots in costa rica are Tamarindo, jaco and there are a lot more breaks on the pacific and they are less crowded!!The best spot on the carribean coast is Puerto Viejo the best place to buy a board is jaco and tamarindo...i bought a board for 100 dollars and sold it when i left!!It depends on the size of your board...if you wanna buy a longboard you pay a lot more of course!

Surf every day if you want!

by SURFIN7TH

My first trip to Costa Rica was supposed to be for two weeks. It turned into 6 weeks and that wasn't enough. The 2 days that I didn't surf warm fun waves were the travel days that we didn't make it to our destination in time. That's the definition of consistent. On my last trip there was one day when the waves were only waist high and I went fishing instead. Surf Board:Most of the waves I surfed were performance waves. There were a couple days that I could have used a gunny board but most of the time my 6'6" was fine. The Carribean side is another story.Rash Guard: A long sleave rash guard may save you from a bad sun burn or even worse. I didn't see as much as a cloud on my first trip except in the mountains on the way from the airport to the coast.
