 | Costa Rica Things To Do | Tips 591 - 600 of 814 | | Bahia Salinas - Very easy to reach. Some hotels directly at the sea offer a good possibility to spend some days. My advice: Spend two days there in a hotel in order to be ready for some low-budget accommodations in the next stations of the "Penusula de Nicoya Trip" ... ;-). Playa Cuajiniquil - Well ... you can walk and walk and walk ... and will hardly meet and people. A place to spend the day relaxing, reading a good book and refreshing in the sea ... just perfect. Playa Conchal - Definitely the most beautiful beach. The colour of the sea - just breathtaking and unique. Unfortunately Playa Conchal seems to be rather for the upper lever of the tourists. Never mind, stopping with the car spending the day there and leaving to find a bed at a nearby town is a good idea. Playa Tamarindo - If you are going for surfing, that's the place to stay. You will find tons of locals (and in the touristy period also tourists ... ;-) ... logical or not???) being there with the same idea. Playa Samara - For me the most beautiful place to stay. For sure, there are nicer beaches than the one in Samara, but the pueblo which is unique compensates for that. Having a Cuba Libre with the locals at the various bars is a must when spending some days there. Doing a long hike to the nearby Playa Carrillo is a good idea. Leave a Comment

Up to now i have spend the most beautiful and unforgettable time in Costa Rica there. To be more exact ... the place is calles Las Caletas at Bahia Drake!!! A swiss lady (married to a tico) has there a few bungalows where you can stay directly at the sea and also quite in the middle of the selva. Just breathtaking and definitely the perfect place to relax. You will hardly see any tourists; that's something I can guarantee. You spend the day just relaxing, doing hiking (and trying to find the next pueblo), snorkeling at the Isla de Caño which is about half an hour away, fishing (together with David ... and afterwards eating the fish ...hmmmm), playing darts or cards with the locals, or, or, or ... If you want to have more information about this location, just feel free to ask. Leave a Comment

Take enough time to discover this area. The Monteverde Park is probably the most visited and know from Costa Rica. It offers a great variety to spend the day or better ... the days. A good time you will have, when spending about 3 days in this Parque Nacional hiking and biking. A few miles from the Parque Nacional de Monteverde you will find the Santa Elena Park. It has been "build" in order to have the tourists not only at one place. However, Monteverde is stil the main attraction. Personally, i recommend to check out Santa Elena and cross the bridges there ... you will have fun. Leave a Comment

Well ... Liberia itself is definitely not the most beautiful place you have ever stayed. However, its closeness to both the Parque Nacional de Rincon de la Viaja and, what is more, to the marvellous beaches at Guanacaste makes this destination a good "base camp". Personally I find the Parque Nacional de Rincon de la Viaje the most attractive and impressive National Park in Costa Rica. It's not as touristy as Monteverde or Manuel Antonio. Furthermore, i suggest to get a taxi (or rent a car) in order to reach the Park. Exploring the National Park without guide is no problem. The beaches ... as I said, quite easy to reach from Liberia ... I will describe in another section. Leave a Comment

La Fortuna is the nearest village to the spectacular Volcan Arenal. The village itself is pretty laid pack and gets quite packed in the touristy season. It's also a point where ticos spend their weekend. Obviously the biggest attraction in this area is the Volcan Arenal. Maybe the best picutre you can take in Costa Rica ... being in La Fortuna in front of the curch and having a clear view at the vulcan ... just marvellous. Another chance to spend a day in this area is a excursion to the Caño Negro. You will get a guided your in the river and you should be able to see some crocodilos ... but for sure tons of leguans. Biking is also a good possibility to explore the area around the Volcan Arenal. For example a tour from La Fortuna to one of the cascades and to the observatorio at Lago Juncos. Leave a Comment

Not the most beautiful city I have seen so far ... to be honest. However, looking at the capital of Costa Rica a bit closer, one definitely finds some interesting places. Looking at the centre of the city, a visit of the Museo Nacional, of the Teatro Nacional and especially of the Mercado Central are a must. Apart from that, just take yourself time and sit down in one of the bars and enjoy people-watching. Close to San José you will find the Parque Nacinal Volcan Poas. It's just about a 45 minutes drive from the capital. The view from the vulcan is just breath-taking, provided you are lucky and choose a clear day. If not ... niebla ... will be about the only thing you see. In addition to the Volcan Poas you will find a bit further away the Volcan Irazú. It's the highest active vulcano in Costa Rica. You best get there from Cartago. In order to get to the summit in the very early morning, i suggest to spend the night in Cartago (although, from my point of view, that's not really a beauty of a city). Further cities/villages that are worth visiting close to San José: Alajuela and Heredia Leave a Comment

The National Museum of Costa Rica is located in San Jose. It is a small but interesting museum that has exhibits featuring about every little insight that you might want to know about Costa Rica's cultural and natural history. Special attention is given to Costa Rica's Pre-Columbian past with displays of native arts and crafts that are particularly well displayed. Particularly outstanding are the displays of jade and gold crafted artefacts. They are worth the price of admission. As for the exhibits about the colonial period in Costa Rica, this was hardly outstanding and deserves a quick walk through. The museum is located in what was previously an army barracks. In fact there was fighting here during the 1948 civil war as the bullet holes in the walls will testify. In the central compound of the complex is a lovely recreation of the Costa Rican rainforest which is a nice place to relax at the end of your visit. If you are keen on fauna and flora, this is the place to be in Costa Rica. Variegated wildlife everywhere. And if you think of rainforest - more than 500 cm of rain each year. All excursions are done by boats since there are only water canals to travel around. Leave a Comment Address: Tortuguero
