Hola, Grace and Damassos! by alza On my first night in Havana, I was at a bar beside the Hotel Inglaterra, trying to figure out how to order a good rum without using my hands. Damassos helped me choose, it was Havana Club, 5 years old, real smooth! The night was young, he took me to a bar on Obispo Street where he soon realised that I was better at sampling mojitos and singing with the live band, than at dancing... So he danced (splendidly!) with Grace, and soon we were six around the table, all Cubans except me. I understood enough to feel the friendship and that bar is a fond memory. Most of the time, I went to a bar in the afternoon. For some reason, I always happened upon an empty bar, where old musicians were playing and happy to have an audience of one, me! I think it was called Montserrate. Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music

Special guest by Luchonda Nightlife in Cuba? - make your own choice but one thing for sure - visit the local bars and trova's - and you will never forget the atmosphere on this island. I met this Cuban veteran in a local bar near the Capitolia - he showed me his ID, played some romantics and was my special guest !

Dancing in Cuba by PremaMarie When in Cuba, you MUST dance. The Country is all about music and dancing. I was taken to a nightclub by these two very handsome and sweet gentlemen. A picture of one is on the left dancing with a girl who worked at the House I stayed in. She took me around the town on her days off. I don't remember the name of the club we went to, but we danced all night long. Cuban men can surely tear up the floor.
In this picture they are dancing where he worked, which is why the informal attire. When you go to a club, however, you must look presentable and dress in your best. I wore a long white halter dress which was perfect for dancing.... Dance Dance Dance Leave a Comment Theme: Dancing

Style bars are not usually Havana's thing - this city specialises in revolution and intrigue - but the One-Eyed Cat could be the closest they come to a genuine designer bar. Once the hangout of arty bohemian types, the venue recently reopened after a 12-year hiatus. The interior is based on sleek lines with clear-wood floors and post-modern furniture while the gorgeous waitresses don't have the surliness of some Cuban bar staff.
We were there for New Year's Eve which is also the celebration of the revolution. Party clothes and masks were the order of the day. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: Calle O 14, Entrance 17 to 19Phone: 537 1662 224Directions: a block from the Hotel Nacional

Los Van Van by YanetT One special evening was spent with my friends at a club called Casa de La Musica. The group playing there that night was the famous Cuban band, Los Van Van. Everyone was up dancing and the 12 or 13 piece band was great. It was a great night for me and my friends (one of whom happens to be Anja) and this is her favourite band. So that made it even more special.
not necessary to 'dress up', but looking sexy at any time, always helps. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: 20 y 35 MirimarDirections: had a ride, too dark out, no idea how we got there

listening to music by YanetT Another spot to hear great Cuban son, or jazz is the outdoor veranda at the Hotel Casa Grande that faces Parque Cespedes in Santiago de Cuba. It is a great place to hang out, people watch, eat and listen to live music.
I was dressed casually, but usually wear a short skirt or dress in town, or capris (not shorts). Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicAddress: Lacret Y Heredia, Santiago De CubaPhone: +53 (0) 226 893 639Directions: facing Cespedes Parque in el centro

Hotel Inglaterra, Havana by YanetT While waiting for a friend (long story eh amiga, haha), I was with two friends and got to people watch and listen to a wonderful Cuban group, Grupo Carisma play as I waited. I bought the CD, very good. The young girl playing the flute was amazing and gorgeous as most men watching her can attest to. It was fun just watching passers by, having a beer and listening to great music. It is not far from the promenade (Prado) and Capitolo.

Calle 23 by YanetT This small douwnstairs nightclub is located on Calle 23, entre N y O, next too Cafeteria Sophia. The Havana Jazz Festival was on during my visit this December. However this club has great jazz every night of the week. Only $10 to get in, $20 for famous musicians, ie, Chucho Valdes . I only went once, but it was great, smoking was permitted, but a new law prohibits smoking in some restaurants, not sure about La Zorra though. Go there if you get a chance, the atmosphere is classic jazz, little (not dingy though) nightclub in basement, and fantastic musicians always. Photo is of Calle 23, cafe Sophia, La Zorra is to the left of that cafe.

This is the free entertainment paper which comes out every Thursday. It has a list of what’s on around the city, including any gigs for famous bands, such as the Buena Vista Social Club or Los Van Van. The paper can normally be found at hotel reception desks or from their office at Calle 15 602, on the corner of Calle C in the Vedado district.
Generally, Cubans expect to dress up when going out and most clubs have a rule of no shorts, T-shirts or jeans. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

From the Album Viva Cuba by Luchonda Latin American music in many forms and shapes - most of them ideal for dancing. But it is not easy and needs some practicing! Although the Mambo, the Rumba and the Cha Cha Cha have numerous fans - the most thrilling of these exotic rhythm is the Salsa.
