What to bring to Cuba

by Helga67

Lock your luggage securely in order to avoid that items get stolen out of your luggage at the airport. Old clothes to give away No special vaccination is needed. Due to the embargos there is a lack of medicine. Bring your own.soap to give away Bring your own films and good batteries since they are rare and also expensive in Cuba. Bring an adaptor if equipment is not 110 Volt and american standard. In the better hotels you can find 220 Volt.Make a copy of your passport and drivers licence and keep the originals in your hotel safe during day trips.pens, pencils to give away

You will need a passport (valid for at least another 6 months when leaving Cuba) and a tourist card (valid for 30 days). You can buy the tourist card at the Cuban embassy in your country or via your travel agency. This card must be filled in and kept together with your passport during the whole stay in Cuba. For the tourist card you will need to provide a hotel address for your first 3 days in Cuba. If you are not planning to stay in a hotel, just give a hotel address but don't tell them you are staying at a casa.

Bring it all and much more

I have heard numerous stories of fabric bags being slashed for items showing up on the x-ray, it appears to be common comment from previous visitors who have experienced thief. A cardigan, jumper in the evenings especially during the winter months, a great pair of walking shoes, trainers etc.Bikini/swim wear is a must if you are off to the beach :-) I took everything I could think of on hols and I was so grateful I remembered

Cuba, an eternal summer...and economical problems

by russian_yaz

In Cuba there are 2 major seasons: dry and wet. If U plan to go in th dry season and that's what most of the people do because is also the high season, from October until April bring some clothes to cover your self from the cold. In Cuba the usual temperature in winter is around +24 celcius but one or two nights can drop to +15 so better take a sweeter or 2. As for the summer or wet season just take shorts, some pants if U plan to go to a disco o nigh club and don't forget some sandals. If U plan trekking in the mountains take some low trek shoes that can transpirate well. Don't need to carry anything, but if U plan to move a lot inside Cuba, better take with U some toilette paper and some basic medical supplies. At the end of the trip U can leave it to anyone in Cuba, it will be welcomed. Cuba is passing through a hard economical period so take with U anything U think U may need. If...

backpack or backpacks that convert into rolling luggage--travel light if you are taking public transportation or sharing taxis Good walking shoes and socks; pants, warm sweater or light jacket if going to Pinar del Rio in winter--it is usually quite warm during the day, but morning and night it gets COLD!! Bring lots of soap, shampoo, toothpaste, they are great gifts because they are expensive for Cubans to buy. Calamine lotion for bug bites! Pain meds like aspirin, tylenol etc, if you have allergies, bring your meds and just in case, cold meds too--anything you don't use, think of leaving with your hospedaje host, they can only get this stuff by prescription, and it is sometimes a bit expensive even if they pay in pesos nationales. Towel--even if you stay in a hotel, towels may be in short supply! Think about bringing school supplies--we brought looseleaf paper, chalk, pencils,...

Give a little

by tobhamor

If you're thinking of bringing things to give away, simple things like pens and pencils are a good idea. Carry them with you at all times - people will ask for them and you can also pre-empt the asking by giving them where you see they're needed.

PACK LIGHTLY!!!!!

by aneaglewhensheflies

For the Talented Cleaning Staff of these resorts the women really appreciate our make-up items (which are VERY expensive for them there in Cuba) as well as hair accessories. These items can be left as a tip for the staff of the resort. You will need a couple decent casual oufits to wear to dinner - but other than that --pack lightly. Routine Immunizations should be up-to-date (ei. tetanus-diphtheria, polio, etc.) The following diseases can occur in Cuba: hepatitis A, tuberculosis, typhoid fever and dengue fever.Remember to take IMMODIUM in either liquid or pill form-- it will save you spending alot of time on the toilet in case the water or different foods do not agree with yu . A camera or camcorder is a MUST to save those MEMORIES YOU ARE MAKING WHILE VACATIONING.I wish I had , had my digital camera then during this vacation---WOW, some of the shots I could have...
