Toilet paper

by Pixiego

Less is better for less hassle at the airport. They often do search bags when you arrive. Comfortable shoes. It does rain allot so be prepared for that. Bring lots of toilet paper. You will be expected to leave a tip for bathroom attendants. This is true most places- even airports, etc but of course some restaurants do provide paper- but it is just easier to carry some tissues along. Lot's of film- I would bring a roll a day.You can buy film, however it may be an expired date.

You should opt to have your bags wrapped in cellophane to prevent theft. Bring toilet paper for your purse. Public toilets do NOT have paper. You have to pay the attendant for it or bring your own. Yes, you can bring a digital camera into the country. Bring all the medicine you might need as you will not be able to get it here. I brought a presciption of Cipro, a first aide kit and aspirin.

As any backpacker knows, less is best. Pack clothes that dont need ironing and you dont need any long trousers (in the hot season anyways) Hiking Tampons are very hard to find in Cuba and if you do find them, they are quite expensive. So to the girls out there...stock up! There are photography shops in Cuba but again - muy caro! An instant camera costs $25 for example! Camping on beaches is not allowed in Cuba. The best and cheapest way are the Casa Particulares. They are everywhere and if you dont find them through your guide book, the people renting out rooms will find you.

I love my backpack In this beautiful weather, you need next to nothing...literally, a bathing suit, GOOD WALKING SHOES, shorts, and tank tops...beach cloths. Nights can bring a breeze so be sure to have a sweater to throw over your tops if needed. Always try to make room to bring something for the locals...this is literally the most rewarding part of the trip. The people REALLY appreciate whatever you can give them, as they can not get things like perfum, soaps, magazines, and many other toiletries. Use your discretion and bring what you can afford,it is especially fun to bring stuff for school kids, like pencials and stuff. Bring lots of FILM because it is BEAUTIFUL there and you will want tons of pictures.

Suitcases are fine for resort travel, because you will only leave the resort on day trips, if at all! I often take a soccer bag and a backpack to take on day trips or just to the beach. Absolutely no winter clothing of any kind!! (Except for when you get off the plane and have to run to your car!) Bathing suits, towels, lots of sunscreen, dressier clothes for the shows in the evening (but you can get away with going in your bathing suit!), shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, the all important underwear (!!), sandals, walking shoes, hats, one warm pair of pants, one warmer shirt or light jacket. I have never had a medical problem while in Cuba, but there is usually a clinic at the hotel and hospitals nearby. You can buy shampoo and toothpaste at most hotels, but I would suggest bringing it from home. Bathing suits and towels!! Bring some old clothing with you to give to the locals, they love...

Well, Cuba is communist so be careful about bringing banned religous materials. The people have trouble getting necessities like soap, deoderant, and razors so stock up for gifts. Also, they LOVE any name brand or American items. The less the better! Immodium....just in case you drink the water by accident or forget that ice cubes are made with local water!

Toilet paper can be bought in Cuba and is readily availible in the tourist hotels and licensed casas. HOWEVER... do always carry some around with you in your daypack. There are few public washrooms so make note of their locations when you find them and be aware that they are not always equipped with toilet paper. There are some older posts and books that say to bring soap, pens and candies. That may have been true in the days immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union but there are no shortages anymore. Everything can be bought in the dollar stores although the prices are quite high for the Cubans. But begging is also discouraged and the police are everywhere to enforce it. My ideas for gifts for Cubans are:-plastic toys from the dollar stores in Canada and the U.S.- a big hit was the $1 beach ball I brought for some kids-bring extra clothes to wear while you are there and...

bathing suits, and pareros! Sandals, and something to wear out at night. We had very warm weather, so we didn't need anything warm. Sun screen, Suntan lotion, After sun lotion........bandaids, tylenol, gravol, etc. film film film, and more film! Take as many pictures as you can, you want memories of your wonderful trip. snorkeling gear if you plan to do any. If possible, bring some gifts for the locals. We had school supplies, clothing, gum, candy, pens, and a few disposable flashlights. The locals just loved them!

The weather is warm, so you don't need to bring much. Leave anything fancy at home, and stick to the basics. Cotton sundresses for women are great - you don't stand out so much, and they are cool and comfortable and versatile and you can rinse them out at night and they will dry fast. Bring any toiletry you will need - you can get almost nothing there easily. And bring an extra suitcase or give aways, they are appreciated. If ytou are inclined, it is a wonderful thing to bring a small wrapped gift to the family you stay with - it will make them happier than you know. Clothing, vitamins, medicine, food, its all needed and distributed fairly, so bring as much as you can. Comfortable shoes, basic clothes, and more than ever, don't overpack, it's not necessry. Leave jewlrey at home. Bring everything you need, especially sunscreen and bug repellant, and leave it behind when you go. Assume...

Try to pack 1 bag per person, or 1 bag per 2 kids Light clothes, its what we'd call summer weather all year long :) but also be sure to pack pants and a warm sweater because the nights can get chilly, definately pack sneakers/sandels too sunblock and after-sun lotion are definates, bug repellent too but try to not get the stinky stuff :P Your bathing suit and towel, most of the beaches have chairs you can just take and use then you put them back when you're done
