The less luggage the better.I take a small suitcase and a hand luggage bag. Bathing suits, good walking shoes and a light sweater, lots of good sun screen. Imodium just in case of diarrhea, An antibiotic can come in handy. Aloe Vera gel for sun burns and any medications which you would take normally. If you are staying at a resort its always fun to take a cheap airmatress and a noodle for the beach. Also I would recommend taking your own snorkeling gear.

If you are traveling throughout Cuba I definatly suggest something small or a backpack. Pack extra locks as they may get tampered with from time to time. Ziplock bags come in real handy for anything from dirty laundry to shells from the beach. Have good walking shoes with you, you can find yourself putting a lot of mileage on them when exploring the cities.Light hand washable clothing. I also found a piece of rope for a laundry line came in very useful.Pack an umbrella because when it rains it pores (and it makes a good piece to exchange in the market for goods) Pack everything you can think of. Although shampoo and soap are easy and cheap to find in the supermartkets and shops. Especially women, pack extra feminine products. You will not find what you like and they are few and far between. These are more readily avaliable on the black market, but still bring your own.Always keep...

People usually feel abliged to take things to Cubans when they go on vacation. Mostly people take normal tolietries, they are good but think a little more creativly. For instance, I don't normally take things with me but when I do I take bicycle pumps, bicycle oil, small tool sets, decks of cards, batteries, anything from a hardware store or sports related. In Havana kids love marbles and in Santiago they like jump ropes. These items are great and very much appreciated for gifts or trading.

This is a warning - they x-ray your bags before you can enter the country. They do not take too kindly to any 'suspicious' objects, such as hand held radios (walkie talkies). They will hold you up in the airport and it can be a bit of a hassle. Resort Because the people there are so poor, they always appreciate old clothes and every day items such as soap and shampoo. Being Canadian, I also visited my local Municipal and Provincial representatives for Canadian flag pins to give away to the staff.

In the winter months take a light sweater as evenings tend to be cool. During the day, you'll find yourself wearing bathing suit so when you go to the restaurant to eat take a coverup. For evening wear to the buffet restaurants they will allow you to enter with shorts and t-shirts. For restaurants where reservations are required, more formal wear is needed. I usually take my own shampoo and bath soap and wash cloth. The hotel supplies us with shampoo and soap but at some hotels they will not refill until the end of your stay. Sun screen is a must anytime of year you travel to Cuba. If you have clothes at home waiting to go to Goodwill or Salvation Army take them along as you may encounter a nice local on the beach who you may want to give it to.

Pack light Get it at home Get it at home Get it at home. You can buy film and batteries with hard currency. Get it at home Generally, bring everythig from home that you think you might need while 'on vacation' in Cuba.It might be cheaper that way and the stuff available on the island is often of outdated or expired quality.

Study Abroad Everyone who's planning to go in Cuba should bring some gifts for the Cuban people. Just a dozen of small items like: soaps, cheap make-up, and any other cheap and usual stuff we may have in our country will make them really happy... It's always good to give... and you'll make them really happy.

Not too many luggage : it's HOT, SUNNY and you will give the cuban the sensation to be very rich ... only the necessary things ! Good walking shoes but also light shoes for the evenings or the beach. TAKE EVERYTHING WITH YOU : they don't have soap, no toilet paper (always have paper in your handbag), medicines for the diarrhoea, stomach pain (ron!!!) like Imodium, Motilium, Ercefuryl, disinfectant ... lots of films (I took more than 250 pictures!!!) Something to protect your head, solar protection for your skin, always water to drink because it's very warm and it's dangerous to become dehydrate. Take T-shirts, soaps and pens to distribute to the children and ladies.

Pack light as it is never cold. Take EVERYTHING with you and more. Soap and toothpaste are very expensive and are rationed by the state. Locals can buy them but it costs them a fortune in comparrison to earnings.Make a cubans day and take extra and you can give them as presents if you don't need them.
