Take what you need b/c Cuba doesn't have much in the way of material items. Many hospitals didn't have aspirin or spare lightbulbs in 97. And stores were nearly empty with the cheapest of all plastic goods; people went to blackmarkets to buy gasoline, handmade clothes and the like. But there are lots of bananas! Hiking

Cuban childen and adults alike will appreciate small gifts of items that are hard to obtain or very expensive for them due to their economic circumstances and the US embargo: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, pencils, paper, medical supplies, crayons and markers. Food items such as peanut butter, cooking oil and black beans would be most welcome. Any artists supplies or film to support artist and art schools. Cuba is a poor country in terms of consumer goods and even food. Bring all toiletries and toilet paper for public restrooms. Bring snacks for yourself.

You need to see the island. Carry an extra sports bag for your expeditions. Resort Take everything you expect to need during your stay. Dont expect to buy it there. If you use a APS camera or videocamera, be sure to buy your films in advance. You dont need to bring Cigars............

Convenient baggage - wheels are handy in some areas, but not necessarily handy at the resorts. The more important issue is carrying ease. Also be sure to take a bag for beach stuff. Sandals and walking shoes a must. Don't forget the sunscreen! Bikini, bikini, or for some - no bikini.

Family Travel Take anything and everything. Cuba has nothing unless your a tourist and that of coarse everyone knows that... If you go to visit family like I do, try to take with you as much medicine and toilitries as possible, even toilet tissue... For a country that claimes that they have top notch medicine well guess what ? They dont!!! unless once again your a tourist and they have tourist hospital where you pay only in $$$$

Take only one bag with cheap, thin and sunny closing. sunglasses, thirts, shortpants, and two pair of shoes.that's all you need.Oke some underware should be handy, and some suncream Cuba is a very healty country with perfect medical care.I didn't take any medical shots...i trusted my health and it worked out just fine. Take at least 40 films 36exp. from 25 till 800 asa.Shoot every second your eyes are open.Or take a digital camera with 256mb of memory.I took over 500 pics (and deleted 250, because i did't had enough memory)Here an evening picture in vignales, which popped out my eyes cover yourself against the extreme hot sun, which can fried your skin like a red lobster.Don't take any warm clote with you....it's warm all year and all over the place. Some ballpoints, lighters, make-up, t-***s, soap for the locals. You'll make a lot of friends;-)

i was good for one week with one rolling suitcase. i would have preferred a backpack. during rainy season, a small poncho would be good. otherwise, it's hot. no need for pants! skirts, shorts and tank tops last forever.one good pair of walking shoes and thongs were great, too. toilet paper was good to have (in the bus station), a flashlight during power outs, bandaids are hard to find, bring your own soap, shampoo if staying with a family. women in trinidad want hand and face lotion. a bandana is a good all-purpose piece of gear. should have brought some liquid laundry soap for sink rinsing. having a camera just interfered with my interactions with people. i wish i didn't have one at all, but i'd hate to leave without pictures. just be prepared to stand out, if you don't mind. i was glad to have a lock with a cable for my suitcase. you can chain it to furniture and leave for the day...

I just want to tell all tourists, who like to travel to Cuba not to pack any fancy, expensive designer clothes. Cubans are very poor and it's not right to show off. It would be nice if you pack some things you can leave behind with some of your newly made friends.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but you do *not* need to purchase medical insurance.Foreigners are treated free.In case your worried about the medical expertise...put your mind at ease, they have a world class facility in Havana and are a well educated, skilled labor force to back it up.Serious accidents will most likely lead to air lift, however I heard of one story where a guy caught a bacterial infection in his foot. They treated him and although not obligated, he offered a $40 tip since doctors get paid $26 US a month.

Try to save room in your bags for extra boxes of Cigars.Check out your local customs rules and see if you can abuse them. Cigars, especially Cohibas, can be resold in Canada to the US buyers for an amount which would easily pay for two trips to Cuba.I brought back 4 boxes and got caught not claiming the extra two at the Canadian border. All they did was charge me $40 after they asked me what they were worth.Ya ok...lets see...hmmmm...my $350 cigars are worth...ah I mean my $40 cigars.Talk about western crap...here is micro management at its best in a Democracy. Lets spend millions of dollars on scanning equipment and catch people with some extra cigars.
