Local Culture, Havana

Fondest memory: It's not hard to find a restaurant with a live band in Old Havana. You don't necessary have to go inside the restaurant, as the band usually plays in front by the patio, which is a good way to attract ppl to go in. El Patio at Plaza de la Catedral and La Mina at Plaza de Armas are two good examples. Many ppl, including myself, like to sit by the patio to have a drink to relax and enjoy the music.

Favorite thing: It might seem that I have an obsession for marriage in foreign countries ...
Be as it may, here is the story:
When passing the building with these stairs in Vedado we were invited to vitness a civil marriage that occured in the building.
We accepted the invitation and gathered amongst all the relatives and friends to the couple that had come. The officiant read the proper words about marriage and the revolutionary point of view of the importance of being married. (Much the same as in the church ceremonies.)
The photographer missed to take photos when the couple signed their names and they were asked to do it again.
- Shall I sign again?, said the bridegroom, and all were laughing - except the officiant. Perhaps she thought that this cermony was too serious to be laughed at.
She was acting very professional, but I felt sympathy for her, not being able to relax just for a short minute.

Favorite thing: Dressed in period costume of Spanish soldiers, Old Havana celebrates its history every day. Habana Vieja has been declard a UNESCO Heritage Site and extensive renovations are continually taking place.

Fondest memory: I miss my Cuban friends and the general friendliness of the people.

Favorite thing: Habana Vieja, the old city, is a unique blend of old world charm and carnival atmosphere. Tremendous architecture, galleries, museums and lots of history. Also great cafe's to enjoy the ambience. And lots of buskers trying to make a tip, US dollars of course! Let's salsa to the latin beat.......

Fondest memory: My first two trips were a kalidescope of activity trying to see everything. Each subsequent trip has been to see less, but to relax and enjoy the ambience more. Nothing is better than sitting in the warm sunshine sipping a cold beer and listening to the music.

Favorite thing: Getting around in the city, you will find many interesting and very well made murales like this one just in front of Museum of the Revolution.
