This 18th century mansion of Baroque style, former palace of the Aguas Claras Marquis, located in the Cathedral Square surprises the visitor with its magnificent façade, its bright and colorful stained-glass window, broad arcades and central patio which delights the visitor with the freshness of its plants and the beauty of its unique fountain.

Here you can also enjoy, immersed in the ancient atmosphere of Old Havana, the delights of El Portal Snack Bar which looks out over the Cathedral Square, La Fuente courtyard located in the inner patio, the Villanueva Bar, a site for all Havana's bohemians, the Ponce de Leon private room, the ideal place to host business luncheons and private dinners and the Marquis Lounge, specializing in grilled beef, also ideal for receptions and special occasions. Here you will always receive a personalized and first quality service. An unforgettable experience.

  • At the Al Medina Restaurant the magnetic atmosphere created by its colorful tapestries and the captivating smell of sandalwood and jasmine invites you to taste delicious Arab specialties such as brochette or the typical Cous-Cous, cooked in the subtle and graceful style inherited from the 19th century's Lebanese and Syrian immigrants or the Hispanic world. And for those of you who are more demanding, there is always the chance to taste the international cuisine specialties surrounded by the aphrodisiac charm in which this place is immersed.

Located in an impressive mansion resembling the Mudejar architectural style of mid-17th century in the city and which back in 1689 housed the San Ambrosio's Humanities College, here you can also enjoy the delights of the 'Chawarma' snack bar, an inviting bar, a specialty shop selling Arab products, and several roomy halls, including two private rooms.

    D'Giovanni: D'Giovanni

  • The D'Giovanni Restaurant, one of the most outstanding expressions of the Italian cuisine, is housed in a Mudejar style mansion from the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. From its balconies people can enjoy the magnificent view which can hardly be enjoyed from other parts of the city.

While savoring delicious Italian products and international cuisine dishes, clients can take the most amazing pictures of cruise ships and other vessels navigating the harbor of Havana, and by the Real Fuerza and Tres Reyes Magos del Morro castles, the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress and the San Carlos and San Ambrosio Seminar. People can also hear and see the firing of the Morro Castle cannon at nine o clock, a colonial times tradition that still endures.

    Pizza D'Giovanni
Dough is prepared with Canadian flour, covered with cured ham, fresh vegetables and sausage; it is then sprinkled with olive oil and decorated with black olives.

La Torre de Marfil: La Torre de Marfil

  • A place with a cozy and friendly atmosphere that recalls the old trade with the East. Here, you will find the precision and the wisdom the first Cantonese emigrants showed in the preparation of their meals for their celebrations more than 150 years ago. The interior of the Restaurant was designed in red and gold, the colors of the Chinese fiesta.

The House has a main room, a private room, a pagoda and a beautiful central patio or Chinese garden, a wide choice for the visitor to have a pleasant stay. We suggest the traditional Cantonese dish, fideo cabello de ángel (vermicelli), served with shrimps, veal, pork or chicken meat. Other specialties are the Chinese soups and wan tom. All dishes are served in fine Oriental China by Asiatic descendants. There is also a shop specialized in Chinese products, such as drugs, tea and aromatic herbs.

This is a sautéed vegetable dish that includes shellfish, extra fine noodles, soy sauce and oysters.

Very closed to the magical Plaza Vieja, located in the ground floor of the Mesón de la Flota Inn, resembles an ancient colonial Spanish tavern and in its decoration visitors can find sailors's symbols, tiny replicas of ancient vessels and flags indicating the maritime sign code. Lucky visitors to this unique site will have the chance to select from a wide variety of wines from different countries and enjoy the exquisite Spanish tapas as well as cold and hot entrées, delicious main dishes and creole and Spanish deserts.

Those who visit this unique place will enjoy the art expressions of the live flamenco music and dancing performed by cultural groups 4 000 nautical miles away from their place of origin.

The lobster should be sautéed in butter and red pepper until it is sealed. The orange juice is added, together with diced pineapple and papaya, letting the mixture cook for a few minutes. The medallion-shaped potato puree are grilled until they turn golden and are then separated until ready to be served. The cooked lobster is flamed with the Silver Dry rum. Grilled potatoes and fresh vegetables are served as decoration with the dish.

Paladares: The most famous Cuban paladar
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The most famous paladar in Cuba owes its renown in equal parts to the wonderful ambience, excellent cuisine, and the starring role it played in several scenes in the Cuban blockbuster film Fresa y chocolate.
The three small rooms of this converted apartment are reached by climbing three stories of steep, rundown, and poorly lit stairs. The signed celebrity headshots let you see the stars in whose steps you have just followed.
I would recommend going for lunch or late lunch during daylight as the neighberhood - Centro Habana is slightly dodgy.

We had some delicious tuna and some sea food risotto, both of them being probably the best dishes that we had in Cuba.

Dona Carmela: Nice paladar near El Morro
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We had our lunch here, in a nice garden, after visiting San Carlos de la Cabaña, which is very close to the paladar. It was relaxing to be having lunch at a garden, after the humid heat during sightseeing.
We found it a little expensive, but we were "guided" by a spontaneuos "cicerone", who was probably earning a percentage...
Nevertheless, we had a nice time at Doña Carmela.

We had "pargo" (fish) and pork, all served with salad, frijoles, aubergines, rice and steamed potatoes. All the sidelines were absolutely delicious except for the salad, which I didn't like very much. I preferred the pork, but my companions were more fond of fish, so it's a matter of personal taste.
As regards to drinks, I would always choose Bucanero beer better than Cristal

  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • While in Havana, be sure to visit the Bodeguita del Medio, a tiny restaurant on a side street near the Cathedral. It is famous not only for its menu of out-of-this-world traditional Cuban dishes but also for its delectable Mojitos and its unique decor. Ever since its opening in 1942, its clientele has included countless world celebrities in the arts and VIPs in the spheres of science and politics. The atmosphere is bohemian, and guests are welcome to write or carve their names anywhere they can find space to do so. Its atmosphere retakes the atmosphere of the traditional inn, adorned here with the "Tres" (typical Cuban guitar), maracas, güiros and bongos. Enjoy the frijoles negros dormidos and the roast pork.
