Head north to "Sosa Tattoos" (he actually has a sign outside his mother's house) between Lamparilla and Obrapia. He does his work right in the living room. Don't worry - he's extremely careful about sanitation. All the equipment was sterilized and he used brand new needles. Address: Villegas between Lamparilla and ObrapiaDirections: Old Havana

Havana is an absolutely Amazing City. I recommend anyone visiting Cuba take the time to take either a guided or self guided walking tour Havana (Old and New). The Architecture, Beauty, and History of this city is simply breath taking. The streets are lined with old classic cars that will make any car buff drool. It is said that in Havana cars don't die, and from what I've seen it appears to be true. The streets are safe, the people incredibly friendly and most are fluent in many languages so communication and directions are simple to get. Be sure to take lots of film. You'll love this city. The multi-kilometre long sea wall that goes from Miramar through to Vedado, Centro Habana and Habana Vieja is also a Havana Institution. Everyone hangs out on the Malecon at all times of day or night - it is a place for families, children, youth, couples etc. to hang out, socialize, enjoy the views and the smell of salt-water, have drinks, listen to music. It is a great place to people-watch and also an interesting place at night to have some drinks and listen to the random music on the street- Luisito el hombre-orquesta (Luis, the one-man band) is fabulous if you get to see him- he drags around a huge wooden cart with home-made instruments made out of thrown out wood/garbage/plastic and plays classic tunes, Cuban tunes, new electronic tunes. He is a brilliant musician, has a beautiful voice and is highly entertaining (especially when he sings english songs and simply mimicks the sounds of the lyrics since he speaks no English). Beware though: the later at night it gets, the seedier the scene becomes. Police tend to patrol the area and may sit down near you, if you are obviously tourist, to make sure all is right. But don't take lots of money down there, go in a group and don't get drunk - otherwise you are guaranteed to be robbed. Leave a Comment

This landmark across the harbour can be seen rather easily from many places in downtown Havana and was supposedly built by Batista's wife before they fled from Castro's Revolution in 1959. The statute is beautiful and slightly remarkable but seemed no longer home to the fun, young, music-filled hang-out spot I once new 'back in the day'. It now had grass growing a little long, a few goats and a couple of Cubans with cold drinks to sell. Its a nice place to pass making your way from Parque El Morro-Cabana and down to catch the ferry (lanchita) from Casablanca to Habana Vieja. Head to the edge of the park where the Cristo stands, in the direction away from the fortresses and you will find a path leading you to a series of stairs that go to Casablanca. From there, head straight across the main little plaza and down the street where you will see the ferry station. Leave a Comment

If you only see one museum in Havana, I recommend that you go to this one: it is great option for a lazy afternoon or a rainy day when you would rather be inside. There are two buildings: the main building houses Cuban art (mostly paintings and sculpture) while the other building near the Parque Central a few blocks away houses mostly International art work as well as trinkets and valuables from ancient societies such as Persia, Rome and Greece (called Universal in the old Asturian Centre on San Rafael). I found this part less interesting. It is 5 CUC to enter the Cuban building or 8 CUC to see both buildings. The Cuban building will take at least several hours. Go to the top floor where you will start with colonial art and make your way down as you go through the different eras up until modern day. There is a plaza on the first floor where you can relax as well as a cafeteria with tables and service where you can get refrescos, beer, ice cream, cookies and crackers and some sandwiches. CLOSED MONDAY Leave a Comment Address: Trocadero between Zulueta & MontserrateDirections: In the far part of Centro Habana bordering on Old Havana near the Parque Central and CapitolioWebsite: www.museonacional.cult.cu
