When crossing the mountains, you may see fruit vendors. Make sure you stop and buy some, as you may not have a chance to buy any other food on the road. But more interesting, look for the vendor selling "Cucuruchos" - a local treat of orange, guava, tamarind and papaya, wrapped in palm leaves in the shape of a cone.

The politics about getting a well deserved holiday is special in Cuba - they are not that free like we are ! But no politics on this page !
As traveler you might not benifit from this tip - but it is good to know that the locals in Cuba have their vacation "facilities"-say camps - themself.
The Campismos are well structured but spartanic places, everywhere in Cuba.
Small lodges -sport and BBQ equipment are foreseen.
in Baracoa, it is not surprising to see the local barbershops full of waiting people.. children and adults waiting for their haircuts..haircuts at these official barbershops cost 2 pesos each ( about 7 cents usd)

not that the days before were any cooler, but there is an official day of welcoming the summer and there is a festive atmosphere along the malecon.

very often whole cooked pigs are displayed on tables, especially whenever people gather in the centre of town and wherever there is a party. a sandwich of pork costs very little and for many people it is the meal

sabado baracoese is the weekly celebration of people, a giant street party if you like. people from the neighbouring villages make the journey. the residents go to special lengths to look good, well groomed and well dressed. so it is a pity to see foreigners,obviously from countries richer than cuba walking around the town that night so shabbily dressed and occasionally smelly.PLEASE A CLEAN SHIRT OR A DRESS OR PAIR OF PANTS OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE LOCAL PEOPLE. I HEAR THE COMPLAINT A LOT AND THEY DONT RESPECT YOU IF YOU ARE SHABBILY DRESSED.
on hot summer days, the government officially brings in these trucks full of beer and you can have beer, very cheaply..you will see a crowd of people in front of the beer truck
