On many tours, you have the opportunity to stop at a cigar factory. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the skill and craftmanship in Cuba's wonderful cigars!
The store at the cigar factory, although not outrightly a "tourist trap" can be rather enticing...
We found that the prices at the cigar shop at the factory were actually a little higher than on the resort. We learned this after purchasing at both locations.
While viewing all the treats at the shop, calm down, relax, and contemplate whether this is your last (or best) opportunity to make a purchase. For some, it may be. For us, we still had plenty of time left in Cuba.
If you've determined that this is your best opportunity for a cigar or rum purchase, then make the purchase and enjoy! Afterall, what's the point in missing out? If you're pretty certain they'll have the brands/sizes you are looking for at your resort, or from duty free on the way out, then consider opting out of the purchase, however enticing. It may be easier for you to not lug bottles or packages around on your tour. Weigh out your personal options!
Either way, as long as you don't purchase cigars off the street, you are safe. Just decide when and how much you want to spend!
