Row A Boat in salty Laguna de Maya

by PeterPanandWendy Updated May 1, 2013

While this little local spot was introduced to us by our Cuban friends, I believe that the providers of the Jeep Safari Tours out of Varadero resorts may also be able to make the arrangements to go here (or at least to nearby Coral Beach for snorkeling).

Off the highway onto the old coastal road, not too far from the Varadero airport, Laguna de Maya (entry is down a country lane across from Coral Beach) is a hidden gem of a place. A wonderfully prepared suckling pig luncheon (with salad side), great music, bar that provided the usual rum and beer as well as the blender mixed, delicious, pina colada, and boats to row about in. The swim was great - would recommend swim shoes.

What a fabulous afternoon we had.

Row, row, row your boat... Great friends, good food... Off the teaten path, for sure...

    Varadero beach. Nice... not...

Varadero beach. Nice... not very different from the others. The water is colder than in the south (but not too much...).
