Newly constructed and overlooking the beautiful Matanzas Bay, this second floor restaurant is the best discovered to date. Professionally finished, including the wood-burning pizza oven, this stunning venue offers a variety of deliciously prepared, wonderfully presented selections.
Newly opened just prior to our visit, and at that time only a few days per week, means that a reservation is most definitely required (it was full) at either of the two dinner time sittings. Guessing that they have seating for about 50.
Excellent selections, good beverage choices, very reasonably priced.
The service could be improved, but I put that down to new service staff in a newly opened, very busy place. I'm sure in quick time they will find their groove.
Tell owner Carlos that you read a review on Virtual Tourist - I asked if he would mind if I wrote one because I simply loved the place!
Favorite Dish: The Chicken Bechamel with cheese and olives was delicious - beautifully presented, several sides (potatoes, rice, green beans), wonderfully garnished, tender and melt in your mouth. There was an awesome little baked ramekin side best described as a garlic bread stuffing.
Great pizza done in the wood-burning oven. Another terrific chicken dish with a simple light lemony sauce. A beautiful pork dish with the more typical rice & beans and yucca. All of the dishes we had were delicious.
I always like to eat in a place that you find the locals eating. There are a couple of good places to get a good meal at the Caves.
Favorite Dish: There is an old man that has worked at the Caves for decades - His nickname is "Negro Oro". He makes the very best Mojito (not the drink, but the sauce that is added to pork). Lots of garlic and cumin. Unbelievable. He prepares it from the heart.
I make sure to go for at least one meal every trip, but often end up going back a few times.
