If you need to keep the costs low, you can take the bus to other parts of the country. The Viazul bus is very safe, on time and has air conditioning. You can buy your tickets on the day of travel but if you want to be 100% sure of a seat on the bus, you might better get your ticket a day in advance. However there are several busses leaving to the different destinations everyday, so it shouldn't be a problem. The Viazul offices/ stations have special locked rooms where your luggage can be kept for a few hours.

It costs 5 CUC and the ticket lasts all day. You can hop on and off as many times as you wish. it takes you from below downtown Varadero to the marina at the end of the peninsula. The busees do NOT accept USD. Just CUC. It is an open top double decker bus so its nice when the bus is moving, but mind your sunburn. With the breeze blowing the burn catches up with you unknowingly!

You can take a bus ffrom downtown Varadero to Havana for 10.00 USD each way. the busus leave around 8;30 am and come back aorund 10:30pm.
If you want the bus to pick you up and bring you back to the hotel, it is 15.00 USD.
