Hire a guide for an "off the beaten path" hike.

by pfsmalo Written Apr 6, 2015

Favorite thing: I'm glad that we found this guide from a French travel site, completely Francophone but Anglophone as well. After visiting a tobacco farm not too far from the town we veered away from the main track and he took us through fields and mogotes until we came to a fruit farm seemingly in the middle of nowhere, that of course offers juices and coffee. From there we climbed up a man-made staircase and went through a cave some 80 metres long and out the other side. A long walk took us back through a small village on the outskirts of Viñales and people in the fields. We paid 10 CUC each for a 3 1/2 hour tour, well worth it and very informative. You can find him at his parents house on the main street just by the Viazul bus stop (There is no real terminus in Viñales).

Favorite thing: Its the countryside and a chance to relax that is the attraction of Vinales. The pace is slow, the countryside stunning, commercial development low.

Fondest memory: The fabulous scenery, the dramatic changes following a storm, the relaxation and the hotel Los Jazmines

    Vinales valley

by aramat Written Oct 3, 2003

Favorite thing: The Vinales valley is a tobacco growing region, but there are also plots of coffee, bananas, cassava, malanga, cabbage, tomatoes, beans, corn and the list could go on. These kinds of little huts are used for drying tobacco, but might be used for other purposes as well.
