 | Viñales Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 38 | | If you want to see a cave in the neighbourhoud of Vinãles, you can better go to the Cueva Vinãles. It’s also not that much to see there, but the guide that we had talked with us about everything, our country, the politics the Santaria and other stuff. It’s better then the Cueva El Indio, but if you like big caves, don’t go. You can also have a nice meal here. Leave a Comment

One thing that you have to try to do is doing a bike ride in this beautiful land surrounded by the Morgotes. You will have the change to explore a cave or see a tobacco farmer at work. The scenery is very nice and the trip is very relaxing. If you want more information look in my travelogue, a bike ride in the Morgotes. Leave a Comment Directions: Ask your host for some bikes to rent. If they don't have enough bikes, they go to the neighbours and they bring a wide collection of strange vehicles with the name bike.

You must go to a local pub to have a beer or a Cuba Libre or another drink. In each pub there are local bands playing, the same one that you can see a few hours before in the local hotels. Here they play with fire and joy and in the hotels because they have to. Here you can meet the local people and dance with them. The performances are excellent. Leave a Comment

Go to the viewpoint at Los Jasminez to see the Morgotes. These Morgotes were formed because the ground around it felt down, leaving these beautiful rocks for us to see. Vinãles looks like a play town from our point of view, dominated by those Morgotes. Leave a Comment

This cave is 10 times better than La Cueva del Indio, a tourist trap. Cueva San Tomas, a nice 15km drive West of Vinales, is the longest in Latin America. They give you the proper gear (helmet with lamp) and guide you through an easy 2 hours tour (some people come here from all around the world and actually spend weeks in the caves (they are 47 kms long!). A trip to the coast was something of an adventure even armed with a map from the Hotel. There's an organised trip from the hotel to the beach along witha couple of other sites, but we decided that as we had the car we would strike out on our own. The problem is lack of signage on the roads. But we did eventually find our target, with several unintended detours - the Cayo Jutias and its fabulous beach at the end of a very long tidal swamp road. There's also a small restaurant that serves basic food (chicken or fish) - although they managed to forget us! (we were there for a very long time waiting for chicken and chips - we think that 2 latecomers in a group that turned up just after us were given our order...). But the beach is glorious even if our day was cut short by the onset of a storm sweeping in from Florida. Leave a Comment

Approx 1 km closer to Vinales than Cueva del Indigo is the Cueva de San Miguel. It serves as an (irregular) nightclub inside the cave, but you can also walk all the way through the mountain. At the far side away from the road is a very pleasant little restaurant (as well as a craft shop) open to the elements with great views across the valley floor. Leave a Comment

About 5-6 kms north of Vinales is a delightful little cave found in the limestone magotes and among fabulous countryside. $3 entrance, you walk part of the way and then a boat will meet you to show you the rest of the cave. You will have to walk back from the exit to the car (or bike) - about 15 minutes. Leave a Comment

All around the valley there are many tobacco plantations and tobacco farm with their caracteristic house with wooden roof. Here tobacco is cultivated in a traditional way, just like they did decades ago. What surprised me most anyway was seing coffe plants growing wild, ofcourse the cuban guide had to tell me what it was as I would have never thought that that green kind of pee could be coffe. During our trip we visited a tobacco farm, in the pictures there are some tobacco greens waiting to be worked and become puros. Leave a Comment

Vinales valley is an unique example of carsic landscape where agriculture did not change for hundreds of year, looking around at tobacco plants and farms, is somehoe like going back in the past, a sensation that we learned to feel also later in our Cuba trip. This landscape, meant to be one of the most suggestive of the island, is a caracterized by green plantations and by mountains and hills of any shape. Leave a Comment
