The Mural by Luchonda The wall is 120m of height and 180m of width The artist Gonzales Morillo accepted the order to paint the evolution in 1961. And that is it ! A touch and go place Pollon would say !

What is said as a nice cave to visit, isn't worth the few peso you pay. You get in, you walk down and when the phone rings, you pick it up and then a small boat takes you for a short ride in one direction and after a few hundred metres it turns around and then they point out the face to the Indian and then you are outside.
Smile and say to yourself, yes I was warned. The few peso that you pay, you want feel in your purse.
Just relax there in the grass and ride further on your rented bike. Leave a Comment

In any guide you will read that in Vinales you can visit the prehistorical murales. Calling those murales prehistorical gives you the idea that they had been made thousends years ago. Well actually they have been made in 1961 and the name"prehistorical" was given to them just because they are meant to rapresent the theory of evolution, in my opinion it's just something kitch that ruin the landscape. The mural by Luchonda "Mogote dos Hermanas" - the mountain showing the evolution - from amoebe till the homo sapiens. The idea to create this painting is from Manduley - a good friend of Fidel.
It is a good occasion to have a sanitary stop !
Stay longer in the main villages and enjoy your Mojito Leave a Comment

a metaphor for a zoo by cochinjew Desparate Casa Particular Owners line up behind the cordon, offering their homes for tourists to stay. This kind of tourism is declining in Cuba, so the home owners are a bit more desparate than before and it is evident at their panicky behaviour.
Three was a time when staying a private cuban home had a certain amount of charm but right now the relationship is strictly one of economic survival and difficulties. I know people who rent rooms in La Habana and all of them wish they did not rent rooms, since they are not that interested in the tourists other than for the income. The Jinatero is the winner in that he gets a commission and does not have to do any of the work except direct the person to the house, and enjoy free meals on topof that. Leave a Comment

Coming out of the tour by RickL Lots of opportunities to spend money at Cuervo del Indios! There's a souvenier shop at the entrance and exit. There are bands playing at the entrance and snack bar at the exit. the boat "tour" strikes me as not being environmentally safe either.
locals can pay the $5 admission in pesos!
next time we will try Gran Caverna de Santo Tomás for a more realistic experience. Leave a Comment

Mural de la Prehistoria - er... nuff said by swesn This is a painting done on the side of Mogote Dos Hermanas by Leovigildo Gonzalez Morillo. There are pictures of dinosaurs, stick-men, sea monsters. By right, they are supposed to symbolize the theory of evolution. Well, the mural is just HORRIBLE. They can be found walking south-west from Viñales, then following the road heading west. There is a turn-off on the right. This is about 4 kms away. There are great views of the mogotes and villages along the way. Just keep an open mind and come here to be amused by the mural. You can see the mural from afar, there is no need to pay entrance.
