    Mango criollo

by rafgys Written May 8, 2007

It’s a kind of mango I’ve only seen around the Caribbean Sea. It’s much smaller and much, much more tasteful!

In Trinidad… you can get along some highways or, if you pay attention, at regular houses. It grows almost at every backyard… so people may have plates with mangos on their windows. They sell them for pennies (always in pesos cubanos, never in CUC).

    Restaurant ‘particular’ …

by rafgys Written May 8, 2007

Even though almost all the ‘casas particulares’ will offer you breakfast, launch and dinner… there are plenty of people in the streets of Trinidad offering tourists dinner at they own ‘restaurants’. These restaurants are illegal, they are just a few tables set at someone’s backyard… in a very romantic way, where you can go ‘invited’ by some of these persons you meet in the street. They charge you from 6 CUC to 10 CUC (average)… it varies on how touristy you look! But for that money, you can get shrimps, pork, chicken or sometimes lobster.

I don’t remember any address… but if you walk around the main square, they’ll stop you. Don’t say “no, thanks” until they make their offer… then you can always bargain!

    Canchanchara

by Saringuis Written Jan 10, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Canchanchara is a delicious cocktail, supposably originated in Trinidad. It consits of sparkeling water, lime, honey and rum (or aguardiente). Traditionally it is served in a earthenware cup. Worth a try!
