entire island: if you see anything that looks good, its not.

by jenny_lu

in cuba, all the food on the street is cheapo. but you have to be agressive... i stood in line forever one day, trying to get the balls to shout out my order to the lady behind the counter. a woman next to me said, " honey, step on up there and tell her whatcha want." the best thing i ate in cuba was pizza. for 5 pesos cubanos a pop, it doesnt even matter if its good! beware: one day i ordered one with onion, and i swear it was more onion than pizza!

Avoid eating in the casa particulars if possible

by prepost

When travelling in Cuba, all the casa particulars will offer you in-house meals. Breakfasts at 2 or 3 cuc and dinners at 6-10 cuc per person. I tried them a few times and noticed that the meals are all the same even in different casas and are quite boring. You can get much better food (or at least different) if you eat in local paladars or restaurants. The casa owners will try very hard to pressure you into eating-in because that's where they make their profit. I would suggest that you try the dinner once and maybe some breakfasts if you need to get up early, but then eat out as much as possible. Plus, the street food is a lot more cheaper because you pay by peso cubanos.

"GOLETA": Pawsh Italian!!!

by aneaglewhensheflies

A very classy atmosphere in the Italian restaurant in the resort with white, red or rosea wine with your meal, of course. There were many courses served at this Italian Meal., and ALL very scrumptous!!Definitely, a restaurant that you wouldn't want to miss while at SOL CLUB LAS SIRENAS.

The Resorts Buffet and Grill: WHAT A SMORGASBORD!!!!

by aneaglewhensheflies

The most fabulous breakfasts, lunches, and dinners all in ONE spot. All 3 meals are set up in buffet style and tables available for seating inslde and outside. I don't think there is a item of food that you could think of that is not offered at the buffet at SOL CLUB LAS SIRENAS. at any of the three meals provided. All of the Food provided at any of the Buffets during our stay at this resort was not only ALWAYS fresh but ALWAYS hot, also!!At dinner is when the grill is usually at its prime. All the LOBSTER you can eat complete with garlic butter dipping.

HAVANA : CHINATOWN

by swesn

Maybe because I am Chinese, many Cubans kept asking me if I had visited Havana's Chinatown.OK, Chinatown of Havana is ONE street lined with restaurants, many of which are decorated with red lanterns, Oriental-looking designs on the houses, some splashes of Chinese scripts and Cubans dressed in Oriental outfits. Frankly, nothing to write home about. The food served hardly resembles Chinese food. Still, at some of the restaurants, you can find food costing between 20 to 70 Cuban Pesos (less than US$1 to more than US$3). Besides pure Cuban Peso places, these places are actually one of the CHEAPEST around Havana. The majority of these restaurants, especially those with fancier designs, charge in US dollars but are similarly priced. In fact, a few accept both US dollars or Cuban Pesos.

La Bodeguita del Medio: Best "Mojito" and Black Beans and Rice in Havana!

by jadedmuse

First of all, this is not the easiest restaurant to find - but it's well worth the search. It's not that we were indiscriminant because we were starving after two weeks of searching for food (although the latter is the case) - it's that the food really IS delicious here. A bonus is the fact that it's pretty inexpensive. The interior is extremely casual - some might refer to it as a "dive" - but it's rich in history. Former patrons include Chile's Salvador Allende - even Cuba's own Castro - and you'll find all kind of interesting celebrity autographs (and customer graffiti) covering the dark, wood paneled walls. The staff is friendly and nobody hurries you to eat and leave....it's a very relaxed atmosphere. This remains one of only TWO positive eating experiences during our entire two weeks in Cuba (not counting the 2 days in between when, in desperation, we broke our pact and admitted...

Restaurante - Paladar Torresson: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!

by Tjello

To readers not known to the Havana-Malecon conditions... Don't let the pavement-condition influence your judgement whether or not to go here. The restaurant itself is neat, clean and I do like the food...BTW, Price-indication is with drinks included ! The fish !

Anywhere: Paladar

by eddymario

Best food we had, was at Paladars, most of the restaurants we tried did not have great food. With so little on the market ( embargo) it is hard to make some original meal. A few times we had lobster and shrimps, the best dishes during our trip, but not legal.

Paladares: Cuban food?, hmmmmmm

by Hesus

Keep in mind Cuban food is mostly based on marinated meat, grains and other local ingredients, a mix of flavors brought to the Island by Spaniards and black slaves from Africa. You will several onternational restaurants, but you definitely want to try the local food. Instead of consuming at one the restaurants run by the government, keep in mind most of the business are administrated by the local authorities, you might want to try private home- made-style restaurants called “paladares”, a place for tasting for English. They have better prices and service than the ones run by the government. They will also use the money for a good cause, while the government collects the money to enforce their rules and remain in power. Do not miss this menu: arroz congris, puerco asado, tostones y yuca con mojo. Yes, that is rice and black beans, grilled pork, fried green plantains and casava with local...
