Tours of Havana, salsa lessons and spanish classes

by Jennie24

If you're going to visit Havana, and you want a more "authentic" experience than you get going with registered tour companies, i really recommend getting in contact with Rocio. She offers independent, personalised tours of the city, as well as salsa lessons and Spanish classes. She's very friendly and down to earth, speaks amazing English and really does tell it like it is. Highly recommended!

stroll around Havana and savour the sights

by lukulu21

Gaze at the perfectly preserved Cadillacs and Hillman Minx's that would have been trashed long ago back home. Enjoy the Cuban rum.... try a Salsa class.......chat to the locals......amaze at some of the crumbling buildings in which people are living side by side with some fabulously restored colonial architecture. Explore the inside of buildings, sit in the cool courtyards and enjoy the streetmusic

visit Santiago de Cuba

by lukulu21

Stroll the streets of this historic town and gaze at the beautiful buildings, many of which you can stay in with local families. Forget expensive tourist hotels, just look out for the 'blue anchor' sign painted on doors. This sign indicates that the property is registered with the state as a homestay. Just knock on the door and ask if the family have a room you can stay in. This is the real Cuban experience and gives you the chance to talk to local people (many can speak English but better if you can speak Spanish)and learn what life is like for ordinary Cuban citizens, who will eagerly share their life stories with you. Cuba is different, their are no Churches anywhere and many Cubans still express great pride in the achievments of the revolution and the rejection of the gross inequalities of Capitalism. Walk the streets at night and you will see that most people leave their front doors...

Roast a pig

by AnjaV

When staying in a casa particular in El Campo (the province) like Vinales ... ask the owner of the casa particular to buy a pig (you pay of course), invite all neighbours and family, buy some bottles of rum some trays of beers and the party can start!Really believe me this is the best way to have a party in Cuba, and the best thing to do

Instead of Varadero...

by russian_yaz

Hello, yes, ViaAzul is the best (and almost the only) reliable bus company that gets U to almost any of the touristic places in Cuba. There are 3h on the road from Havana to Varadero if U go in Bus, the price is around 10-12 CUC. U could go in taxi also but look to share the ride with someone else as it can be expensive, expect to pay around 40cuc, the difference is that U'll be in Varadero in half the time that in the bus.One more advice, U haven't asked but nevertheless I'll tell U something else. I read that U plan to stay 3 days in Havana and 10 in Varadero. Are U aware that Varadero is a very very touristic place, just tourists, hotels and beachs? No reall cuba to look there. If U're looking for relax in the beach and stay away from the crowd then maybe it could be your place but if not then I'll recomend U to stay maybe only 5 days in Varadero and then spend 2-3 days in Trinidad, 2...

HAVANA HISTORY DAY TOUR

by LoriPori

One of the must things to do in my opinion, is to make a day trip to Havana which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We booked our HAVANA HISTORY DAY TOUR through our Nolitours representative (in Varadero) at the cost of 67 CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos) - about $70.00 CDN.The bus picked us up at 8:00 a.m. and after picking up some more people at other resorts, we were on our way to Havana, which is 83 miles or 134 km away. We drove through the town of Varadero and then on to Matanzas and finally - Havana, arriving around 11:00 a.m. We did a walking tour to Cathedral Square, to see the wonderful Cathedral and to look inside. We then went down a side street to Hemingway's favourite bar - Bodeguita Del Medio" where he had his usual Mojito. Then it was time for lunch at a typical Cuban restaurant which was called "El Patio". There we had a lunch with a choice of chicken, pork or...
