Bob leaving the ship and steel drum player by grandmaR, 4 more photos We were only on Dominica for two days, so we didn't have a lot of packing to do. But keep in mind that it rains a lot in Dominica.
Either a camera that can stand getting wet, or some way to protect your camera from getting wet. Leave a Comment

Light cotton shirts and shorts, good sandals for walking. That would just about make up my entire wardrobe.
You can get film only in Roseau, there are several store on King George V Street. Leave a Comment

If you only intend on visiting for a week or so, avoid checking any bags--the connections are often not made and the airport is not very comfortable to wait in until the next flight arrives.

Don't just pack sunscreen--Dominica has lots of hiking opportunities in the rain forest--bring bug repellent!!!!! Believe me, you'll need it! Leave a Comment

by BROOKS Depending on how long you're going and if you're island hopping will determine this. I pack a lot of things but unless you are physically fit don't. It can make you tired with a backpack, a huge carry on they may cease at departure, an 80 pound plus suitcase, and an empty one from all the gifts you might bring. Luggage could be delayed but at Melville Hall airport I don't seem to have this problem. Have locks on all of your luggage and make sure to have extra keys to the items that are locked.
Rubber soled shoes whenever possible. The streets and alleys are narrow and many potholes on the outskirts of town. A lot of the streets haven't changed since the 1930's or 1940's. You want to be comfortable. Cotton clothing is advised. Silk may be too hot and linen wrinkles at the slightest movement. It's very tropical and rains everyday. It's just a sprinkle at times though. Have an umbrella handy in your bag, purse, or backpack.
If you are fair complected and burn easily consider a lotion of SPF 15-30. When in an automobile it's common for one arm to become severely sunburned. Bring sunglasses because this is a very sunny island. Mosquitoes are a problem. Foreigners have a different scent that these pests aren't used to. So some advice is to lay off the overly fragrant colognes and hairsprays. You may need a net over your bed and some candles that keeps mosquitoes away. A good insect repellent will surely help. Bring calamine lotion because you will get bitten atleast once.
Bring your own film and batteries. Items like this tend to be much more expensive in the Caribbean. I suggest a great camera case with a strap to carry it with. Most electronic items are 20-50% more costly and that's in USD not Eastern Caribbean dollars!
You may want to wear swimwear under your clothing incase you see that refreshing stream. Dominica is the land of 365 streams, rivers, and lakes. Leave a Comment

Mosquito Repellent - while we have no nasty or poisonous bugs, Mozzies can be irritating, so bring some repellant. Leave a Comment

This is no place for nice shoes. Bring rugged old shoes, that you wouldn't mind getting wet, muddy, dirty...
A light rain jacket is handy, but not a must, i actually like to just get wet, i think it's pretty fun. I guess it's a preference thing, but if you don't like rain, then definitely a rain jacket for you, as even though it doesn't rain that often, when it does it kicks in very quickly and goes away just as quickly! From sunshine to thunderstorm in less than minute. It's actually pretty cool if you ask me!
Brings lots and lots of anti-nausea drugs. The roads here in Domincia are VERY twisty...And you don't want to go to wherever it is that you're going all nauseaus and dizzy and vomitting...

Bring a backpack for hikes. Remember, its not uncommon for luggage to arrive late, so pack some clothes in your carry on, or dont bother checking a bag.
Raincoat, disposable shoes (ones you dont mind getting muddy and wet), warm clothing, good shoes for walking, a bathing suit for a dip in a natural pool. Also bring watershoes for river walks and rocky beaches.
You might find yourself having to go to the bathroom out in nature, you...when nature calls. So bring some toilet paper. Bring itch creme and bug repellant. Bring some First Aid stuff in case you scrape yourself on a hike. Bring dramamine or some motion sickness medicine if you get car sick. Sunblock too...but not extremely necessary if your hiking.
Good diving opportunities, so an underwater camera. Also...remember things can get a bit dirty, so be careful with your digital.
