Whales and Scuba

by grandmaR

Dominica has a lot of water sports available. You can go whale watching - twenty two species of whales and dolphins have been identified in the island’s waters. Sperm whales are frequent visitors. You can snorkel or SCUBA. Douglas Bay is great for snorkeling. The more adventurous (or those with a car) can travel further a field to Toucari Bay, Capucin or Batibou Beach. You can also sail a hobie cat, windsurf, kayak, water-ski, jet ski, or go tubingI have not done any of these things because we were there on a cruise ship and there wasn't long enough to do everything I wanted to do. I have given information that I found on the internet, but I have not myself used the tour operator whose information is given below. You can rent most equipment that you need.Site User Fee. Diving at Chez La DouDou

by BownLovingFreak

Chez La Dou Dou is a Dive center located in Salisbury on a Black Sand beach. It is owned by a French couple. Howard, the husband, is super nice and does the dives. His wife works at the bar. My cousin and i were the only known French speaking people there. They have a large market for French people. At times I felt the wife was a bit snooty and rude, but she was that way to everyone. She impressed me when she told me she feeds the dogs and watches the ducks, so they won't kill each other. Anyway...I am NOT a diver...I wanted to try diving to get over a fear. Howard was amazing. We didn't see much or stay too long but he helped introduce me to diving. He was patient and actually held my hand underwater!! I know...Im a wimp. But I did see photos that the experienced divers had and they were amazing! You can see loads of colorful fish, coral, and other sea creatures (turtles, and moray...

Hiking Crazy

by BownLovingFreak

Dominica has SO many hiking opportunities its ridiculous. Some are very easy..while some are quite difficult. The Boiling Lake hike is strenuous but very rewarding. Most trails are well developed and their is lots of info on them! Bring a pair of shoes that will be designated for hiking. They will get wet and muddy.
