The Guacara Taina sponsors MERENGUE WORKSHOPS designed for tourists to learn the basic movements to this enormously popular dance form (which originated in the Dominican Republic and can now be heard in every country).
The Club shows include Merengue Folkloric acts, it has three bars each one with it's own personality, an in-house international restaurant, three huge dance floors, with a capacity for more than 2,000 people inside the club.

GUACARA TAINA

This is one of the hotest dance clubs in the Dominican Republic, believe or not it's set inside of caves in the southside of the city of Santo Domingo, these are real caves, as you enter and make your way down(The caves entrance slopes winding down into the dance floor), you will come across several bars on the way down, also you'll see many little alcoves where you can get cozy and check the moves down in the Dance floor, where all hell broke loose, the dance floor is a blast and energetic, the crow is not your follow the trend kind, but the trend setter if ever was one, it's nearly 100 feet underground, it's enormous, and no part of it was prebuilt or handmade whatsoever, it was formed after more than a few million years of sea erotion on the coral crust of the Dominican landscape,The Guacara Taina is the only grotto Club in the whole world, it's a not to be missed spot while you visit there!

YET ONE MORE SHOT OF THE GUACARA TAINA
#1 Rule if you're going to The Guacara Taina:
Don't drive there yourself, there's no parking to be found around there, and if you find a spot it'll be after an hour of driving around, and God knows how many blocks away.

Don't waste your time on the Guacara Taina, which was underwhelming in my experience.

Avenidas Venezuela and San Vicente have several popular discos, and are full of real Dominican people (instead of tourists) and play real Dominican music. I would recommend going with someone local though, especially if your spanish is limited.

dress nice and clean, but do not overdress; this is not a rich area, and you will stand out.

La Zona - Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo's colonial zone has so many trendy bars, restaurants and discos, all around the colonial square. There are spots for every single taste, age and musical preference. Musical rhythms - salsa, merengue and bachata - are as diverse as visitors.
There are no favorite rhythms, you can define your night according to your particular tastes and likes. Known locally as "la Zona", the area is the favorite spot for a hot disco, a quiet romantic dinner, or a just drink in one of the many popular bars spotted all around the colonial streets.

Wander, find "your" place, and enjoy yourself! But remember: most places don't get good until quite late, after midnight. So... take a nap and head to "la Zona".

This is where I used to sit while waiting to get in to Karaoke Sea Bar when it was full. Cheap beers, not a pretentious place. It's basically a little place where they have the cashier and the drinks, and a lot of white plastic chairs and tables, right in front of the street.

In Santo Domingo, there's endless places to go at night. It all depends what your taste is. If you want to go to a discotec, then the Malecon is a great place to go to.

This is El Malecon, with a great view of the Caribbean Sea on the right side and tons of hotels, restaurants, and bars on the right side. Many parades are done here too.

Well you should defenetely dance Meregue so go around Jet Set discotecor La guacara taina.

For a more international tipe music, the place go is Monaco with a variety from meregue , salsa , rave, tecno etc. . There
you will see lots of Jevitos: thats a calling for young 'cool' people.
Youll meet great people and enjoy really great music.
And it is not that expensive

informal(but guys dont wear T-shirts with no sleeves)
