Another alternative when it comes to means of getting around. These are the most expensive and most dangerous. They're not as cheap as the buses or the share-a-taxis and they definitely do NOT have the same long routes. Dominicans also use motoconchos for transporting stuff.

    Metro
  • Tip Rating:
  • A metro line is being constructed in Santo Domingo and it's expected to be fully operational in Feb 2008 but will be formally open to the masses in Apr 2008. The route consists of 16 stations for a length of 14,5km. Note: this line will not pass close to many tourist attractions.

Ferry to and from Puerto Rico
  • Tip Rating:
  • From this Ferry Touristic Terminal (if memory doesn't fail me I think it's called Don Diego) you can take a ferry to Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and visit 2 Caribbean islands in your trip.

    Caribe tour
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the best and probably cheapest way to travel on the island is by bus with Caribe tour. The busses are equipped with air-conditionning and television. For a 4 or 5-hour-fare, you'll only pay +/- 100 pesos.

    LOCAL BRIDGE
  • Tip Rating:
  • OK This is one of the many hundreds of bridges around the country, the Dom. Rep. has lots of rivers and waterways so they are very common place, unlike in the western part of the country near the Haiti border, this is where many bateyes are located, they were built to house seasonal Haitians sugar cane workers, but later many of them settled there, thus having family, there're many Haitians-Dominicans there, the gov has a hard time of educating people not to cut the trees to make charcoal with it, desforestation it's a continuing problem there, also many poor dominicans do this in the mountains and woods, hence the lack of waterways and green in that part of the country.

This is something i do like...the way the plane is flying...its nice to see where you are and where you are going. Always near New York you get some turbulance...and if the sea is coloured light blue you have a nice flight!
