  • Tip Rating:
  • We had a little trouble getting to Punta Cana. It seemed that the landing lights in Puerto Plata were not working. So we had to fly to Santo Domingo...and travel further by buss.

  • We went via a small climatised bus with a guide which was very competent, the driver was careful, and we enjoyed the ride as well as the commentaries of the guide.

  • Tip Rating:
  • We took an express bus from Puerto Plata to Santiago, and from there the direct bus to Santo Domingo. Remember to have something warm to put on your shouders, as it might get cold becuase of bery good work of the aircondition system. We rent a taxi which was driving us around for at least half of the day. The prices're reasonable, speciallyas we were five. And don't worry, you can fit even 7 in the same car.. have seen even more people in it when going around Santo Domingo. Just remember to agree on the price before starting the trip wih the taxi.

  • This is the International Airport of the Americas. The picture shows you the parking area, in front of the airport. It gets a little hectic (like all airports).

    Better don't go by car!
In Santo Domingo the traffic is chaotic. With chaotic I mean there are no rules. If you go by car take care to other cars. It's very hard to understand if there is the highway code. It's better to take a bus or a guagua. If you take a taxi, agree upon the price before leaving.

    Driving in Santo Domingo
Driving there is very chaotic, and I very strongly discourage you from doing it. Street lights, signs and traffic lanes are not observed by anyone. Many people drive routinely against traffic on one way streets. The buses make very abrupt maneuvers and stops to pick up passengers. The good thing is that the drivers honk constantly to let other drivers know where they are.

    Taxi Driver
I used several taxis, and this guy was the best. He is an older guy, very courteous and friendly, very knowledgeable about the city. He also drives very carefully. His spanish is very easy to understand. You can call him at 846 9167; his name is Luis.
