Frio Frio Bayahibe: Frio Frios / Yun Yuns (Shave Ice)

    by YB1 Written Oct 7, 2011
a refreshing multi colored rainbow of flavor!
    2 more images

Frio Frios or Yun Yuns, as they are also known in the Dominican Republic, are shave ices (snow cones). They are sold on the street usually by a man with a wooden cart and a block of ice. I wouldn't recommend the street cart version as you never know if the ice is purified or not (most often it's tap water).

But in Bayahibe you can buy hygienic Frio Frios made from safe, purified ice.

There's a Frio Frio place at the ocean end of the main bus/coach car park. You can't miss their brightly painted building and penguin logo. They have a bunch of yummy flavors and sizes to chose from. They also make them with cream topping or a shot of alcohol. Makes for a nice, cheap refreshing treat and a perfect way to cool down. Grab one on your way back from Saona Island.
Tip - their "grandes" are HUGE!!! Prices range from 25 rd to 110 rd.

Favorite Dish: mint & strawberry is a really refreshing combination

the simplicity and the position near the fisherman port makes this place a unique place.please, visit it if you have the chance to be in Bayahibe ...you will be satisfied...trust me!

Favorite Dish: banana milk shake....was delicious...I still don't know if the reason was the taste of the dominican bananas or the accurancy the barwoman prepared it....or the charm of the ambience
...you need only to taste and tell me your opinion
    :-)

Sorry I can't remember the name! :-): Restaurant on Dominicus beach

    Lunch near Dominicus beach

We had a pretty good and not expensive lunch in a place right behind Dominicus Beach. If someone here knows its name, please tell me!

Anyway, the place is easy to find, right to the beach and next to the little tourists shops. It’s a terrace sheltered under a palm roof more than a “real” restaurant. The food was local, tasty and cheap taking into account it was a touristy area.

L' Incontro: Italian food in a Caribbean athmosphere

by Belsaita Written Sep 24, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We were really surprised by how many Italians were living in Bayahibe. The owner of this restaurant is Italian and of course there do serve mainly Italian food. However, you can order as well fresh fish dishes, these were excellent, huge and cheap! One of us had the wood-oven made pizza and it was very good as well.

Apart from Spanish, the staff speaks Italian, French and and some English too. Half of customers were locals and half tourists. The night we went there, part of the place was used as local open-air cinema.

Viva Dominicus Beach: Don't miss a good buffet !

by Sheila. Written Apr 9, 2005

Jimmy's: Not realy a Restaurant but great (fast) food

by mabu Updated Aug 19, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Bayahibe's Jimmy

Jimmys you will find everywhere. The name sounds like a big firm like McD. but they are not. I don't know from where the name comes but that doesn't matter anyway... ;-)Jimmys are food vans, built up on trucks or any other way. Private owners build and run them.

In Bayahibe the Jimmy is open in front of the big Colmado in the middle of the village in the evenings.
    .

Favorite Dish: You get all kind of fast food at the Jimmy's, Hamburgers with beef, pork chicken and all different kind of spices and sauces.... mmmmh.
The food is cheap and very tasty.

    Julissa's: My favorite Café

by mabu Updated Aug 19, 2003

    Julissa's Caf

This is my favorite little Café: "Julissa's"

Mostly i had my breakfast here. The service is fast (no wonder with only 5 tables) and friendly, the food nice.
And the view towards the road is interesting, allways something to see.

Favorite Dish: You get Bayahibe's best tuna and tomato sandwiches at Julissa's!

Once I ordered one of them great sandwiches, obviously there was no tuna left, so the little girl (about 5 years old) of the house went running off with some money, after a few minutes she came back with a big smile and a tin of tuna, another few minutes later i had my sandwich... that's what i call service!!

Loads of small Restaurants and Cafés

by mabu Updated Aug 19, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

View from one of the Cafs on the Beach

Bayahibe has loads of small Restaurants and Cafés.

In the Cafés you can eat breakfast, have lunch, just a drink or a sandwich.

Most of them havn't got a menu card, so you will have to ask what there is, wich is not always easy if you don't speak spanish....

The prices are more or less the same everywhere, anyway very cheap.

Favorite Dish: I love the shakes called "Jugo" fruits, ice, water (sometimes milk) mixed. You can get them in different flavours. My favorites are pineaple and papaya.

    by Joan58 Written Mar 5, 2003
    The Club restaurant

The restaurants are all open air with a thatched roof and ceiling fans. The Club is the main one. Here you can serve yourselves at a very well assorted buffet.

Favorite Dish: Good foods with international and local dishes. Once a week they organized the Italian evening and the Dominican evening.
