I couldn't resist! Dominican Art by travelgirl3 Look closely, yes, that's right, its the bathroom! Dominican Art is everywhere! It is so distinctive, bright and colourful, and I just couldn't resist taking this picture. Hey, at least it wasn't the Men's room (but I did peek in, it was all done in a water theme, with dolphins!!) Leave a Comment

Gotcha!! (water, not paint!) by travelgirl3 We found the people of the Dominican Republic to be very warm, and happy. They had a certain 'playfulness' about them, and they always seemed to be singing, humming, and smiling. While we were at Manati Park, we watched the girl in the coveralls pretending to paint the stands. In fact, she was only using water. Whenever somebody would walk past her, she would flick her 'paintbrush' at them, making them think they had just been sprayed with paint. We watched her for about 15 minutes, and she didn't crack a smile once, but you could tell she was getting great joy from seeing people's reactions change from surprise, to anger, to a big smile, when they realized they had been had!! Just riding along, Punta Cana, DR by travelgirl3 During our visit to the Dominican Republic, we saw just about every type of transportation you could imagine. Bicycles with 3 riders, mopeds, motorcycles - we even saw a fisherman on a motorcycle with a large ice-chest strapped across the seat, holding the day's catch! This old guy caught our attention as he seemed quite happy to just be out and about on a beautiful day. We smiled, waved Hola, he tipped his hat to us and rode off. Leave a Comment

Just a reminder that Holy Week 2004 is from April 4-11. Many beach activities or water sports may not be available. Check with the resort or you travel agent before making a booking. Happy travelling, Rob Leave a Comment

Learn a couple of phrases...some of them don't really speak English. If you want them to make a drink for you, it pays to know what's in it and how to say it in Spanish =P If you tip them.....their service is EXTRA nice! Leave a Comment

by Joan58 In the Dominican Republic most of the people are poor and you look like a rich tourist without worries. Sometime they are too insistent, but remember, they earn a living with tourism. So don't be rude with them. If you want just to take a look you can say: 'I haven't got money, I'll come back'. The real problem is when you want to buy something. You have to bargain over the price. You can start at the half price proposed. The negotiation is stressfull and about 20 minutes after at last you can go away with your new t-shirt and a little headache. Leave a Comment

Kids are playing on the beach by Joan58 This was my first experience with another way of life. Caribbean people know how to live. Of course they are poor, but they are cheerful and breezy and music runs in their blood. They live day by day without worry about the future following the rythm of the nature. The sun rises every day and you have enough to live on and that's all. I think they are much more rich than us into their heart. I don't mean they have no troubles, but they face the realty in different way than us. Leave a Comment
