    Daytrip 1 – Inner island

    Green island

Dominican Republic is much more than beaches. The island landscape is varied, ranging from the white sanded beaches to the mountainous green interior.

We booked a visit to the "interior" of the island on a 4wd vehicle, which allowed us to go off the beaten roads and discover both the landscape and the small villages.

At first, we were so surprised at the sight of luxurious green hills. There was green everywhere and the landscape was almost mountainous. The temperature is not as high (fortunately) and there is a kind of mist everywhere. The vegetation is thick and completely different from the palm trees we were used to see on the beach.

This visit allowed us to discover how a typical family lives, what grows on their garden and what are their habits.

    Beach

Punta Caña is a destination that is well known because of its beaches. The white sand, the warm water, the fantastic sea colours, the palm trees, the wonderful sunny days, the animation at night, all add up to make this destination a great spot for holidays.

Someone travelling to Punta Caña is seeking beach, animation and/or relax, basically that’s it. Enjoy the wonderful Caribbean beaches and have fun.

    Enjoy the beach

What can you do in a place like this? Enjoy the beach, the sea, the sun and fill your eyes with the incredible colours of the nature. When you are 'tired' to sunbathe and relax on your deckchair, you can choose many activities to do, like swimming, dancing the merengue, playing beach volley or walking along the beach.

    The beach!!!

The beach is amazing, simply put the beach is why people come to Punta Cana because there is nothing else in the area at all! Its everything you would expect from the soft white sand to the clear blue water and the backdrop of swaying palm trees. I would highly recommend walking the beach as it stretches on forever and provides a sneak peek into other resorts which is interesting. There are also many shops that line the beach which makes for a lot of fun. Nothing quite like shopping with sand between your toes and the ocean mere yards away! By the way Punta Cana attracts many Europeans so don't be surprised to see a lot of topless woman and men in speedos, just a word of warning for you American prudes out there! By the way how is it that the beautiful woman never take off their tops? What the hell!

    Cocktails in the Ocean
    1 more image

As part of the Marinarium tour you get taken out to a sandbank a little way offshore where the captain prepares a 'special' Dominican Rum Cocktail. Everyone then jumps overboard and while Bob Marley blares over the sound system the crew serves the cocktails as you stand on the sandbank. What a place to have a cocktail!!!

    Now this is the life!

Lying on the beach while the sun beats down is a very relaxing way to spend a day or a week for that matter. Be sure to take a few good books, its the perfect place to get your teeth stuck into a good read.

    Swim, Swim, Swim

At least half of my day was spent swimming or floating in the turquoise blue waters of the Dominican Republic. The sea is generally calm and relatively flat and mostly warm. During the afternoon storms the sea does get a bit choppy but that just adds to the charm.
